Steam version updates broke game

Anyone know why the steam version is broken? A zillion updates and now the base game has no landscape colors. Mods that worked great, now just crash to desktop. Who is doing those updates and why is it left busted?

My own...The Particles Within. I was working on part-2. Never mind...brain fart. I found the mistake.
