[Problem] My game won't run properly in fullscreen mode

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help, I've done the obligatory searching for previous posts but haven't found any, so please accept my apologies if this is covered elsewhere.

Basically my game won't run properly in fullscreen mode...
After launching the game through steam, the screen goes black and doesn't do anything, if I toggle windows, or drag a window from the second screen on top, the black screen updates to show the game, but as soon as you click the game it freezes. The game only runs properly when another window has focus, also I noticed that when the game has focus and is in this frozen state it hogs CPU resource but immediately lets it go as soon as you switch to another window.

The game seems to work in windowed mode but I really don't want to have to play it in a window.

I'm running it on a laptop with an AMD A10 quad core, and 8gb ram, with an AMD Radeon HD 8750m not exactly breathtaking specs but should be enough to run this game and I've run it on much worse machines previously.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.
