[suggestion] k9 units enhanced duties.

Postby arwan » Tue Oct 08, 2013 3:13 pm

so we all know (or should know) by now what the k9 units will do in game. my suggestion is to bring there duties more in line with other guards.. PLUS what they can do with a dog. i work at an airport with K9 units... and they do the same duties as other officers.. plus the K9 duties. so I think it would be good to have that in the game as well

currently K9 units will NOT.
1. open doors for other entities in game (workers, prisoners, doctors, etc.)
2. search prisoners and/or items that have been marked to search, exception. the dog tagged the prisoner/item.
3. escort prisoners around. the prison.
4. escort prisoners from delivery vehicle.
5. possibly something im forgetting at the moment.

in short i see a K9 unit as two units.. a guard.. and a dog. the guard should do all the things a guard does.. and the dog should be a sniffer and all well.. dog.

From the point of view of realism, you have a point. However, in terms of gameplay mechanics, I think that it is fair for K9 units to not be able to do all of the things that regular guards do. They are already pretty powerful---they can detect tunnels, subdue fleeing prisoners, detect contraband, and see through the fog of war. I'm not claiming that they are too powerful---once they actually get paid a wage, the fact that the dogs have to rest weakens them a bit and requires space in the prison---but I honestly don't think that they need to be made any more powerful.

Once the fix the wage rate issue. I see them getting paid a MUCH higher rate that then a guard (reason is food supply, treats, training etc, not being cheap), say 300. At this rate having them has a guard with a dog would be beneficial. I would like them to have the ability to search a prisoners cell or even a cell block.

Also if you would like to balance the game even more, you could encourage the player to invest in a veteran. Some larger prison do have a vet on staff for treating sick and wounded dogs.

At the moment the doctor can heal them so I don't think we'll really need a veterinarian. After all, I'm sure a doctor can figure out basic dog anatomy and deliver first aid.

actually the doctors don't heal the dogs.. the dogs get healed in the kennel. BUT regular guards will take dogs to the infirmary to be healed.. when this happens the dogs bug out and no longer respond or try to return to the kennel to rest up. instead your left with it occupying a bed until you fire the dog.
