Idea for land units

Postby >HyperlogiK< » Sun May 06, 2007 4:49 pm

I don't know how feasible this is, but I have been playing around with defcon and I thought that you could do a middle of europe map (so no important sea areas).

You could replace the sea units with land ones:

Battleship = Mechanised Cavalry/Infantry
Submarine = Artillery/Mobile SRBMs
Aircraft Carrier = Slow moving AWACS aircraft (because of the SONAR) at a stretch you could claim that the other aircraft were escorts.

The problem then obviously is where the cities and structures go. Is it possible to do little blobs of land dotted all over at regular spacings in which these could be, with it being just the middle of Europe you wouldn't need LOADS of cities.

I have done some icons and a few half finished Europe maps, but I don't know exactly what is possible with this game, so suggestions and advice would be very welcome.

Cities can go anywhere. The problem that you would have would be with structures. You would have to create patches of land to place structures, and "ships" could not go there. Someone (Sirthomasthegreat) has created a similar map that is set on a naval base (I think). He put silos, RADAR, and airbases on the tops of buildings, and let his "ground" units run around on the streets. You could probably put something similar together, where silos can only be placed in cities, or some such.

It was me with the landcon mod. Carriers were humvees with uav drones. Battleships were tanks. And subs were scud missle launcher. Also made the AA gun a flak cannon. Other stuff like that. Do a search and you will find it. Like I said it is called landcon.

Could the patches of land be small enough (but frequently placed) that you could do it without it looking silly?

Possibly, but it would probably make navigation quite a pain in the ass.

Sirthomasthegreat made one http://forums.introversion.co.uk/defcon ... php?t=3334

But I made the naval base one http://forums.introversion.co.uk/defcon ... php?t=3334 :D

However I never got around to releasing it, however if someone wants to play it, i'll release it. Still needs some work though.
