Your Media Player

Postby jelco » Thu Feb 01, 2007 4:42 pm

I got my own Creative Zen Vision:M Black (30GB) yesterday, and since I was incredibly bored after dumping a lot of music on it, and discovering it still needed four hours of charging, I got the idea of posting a poll. Of course, that was the exact time of dinner, so I didn't come to it.

Now I ask you again: What is your Media Player?

Let's establish the fact that:
- The iPods have the user-friendliest interface
- The Zens support the most codecs :P
- The Archos players are the best video players

Sound quality is different for everyone, so I'm not calling one better than another. I must say, the Creative earphones are HORRIBLE! I have relatively expensive (€ 55) Sony earplugs - MDR-EX715SL for the interested - and I was happy they still worked. :D

Other stories can better be ruled out too. Creative didn't take Apple's interface, it's the other way around. Apple has been sort of a copycat the past few years, but they worked it out better. No wonder Creative won the patent.

Have you guys got any other stories?

As I don't care that much about toting music everywhere, I don't have a true media player. I do however own a PSP which at one time or another carried a few songs on it. I voted other...

I only know one CowboyNeal, and that's an editor on Slashdot. I don't think you mean him.

The Microsoft Zune is a thing I haven't seen in Europe yet, and I thought it was a failed product. I didn't think anyone here would have one, especially not because it can't even play Microsoft's own DRM-protected WMA (including those bought off MSN Music).

I have a older version of the RCA Lyra.

It holds 128MB internally, but has an SD expansion card slot.
It supports mp3 and wma files.

I've currently got a 20GB 4G iPod. It's a couple of years old now and the hard disk is slightly broken - sometimes it needs to be hit around a bit to work properly but otherwise it's fine. When it does finally die I'll probably go for an 8GB Nano.

No FLAC support :P

Anyways, I voted Other since I still use a CD player (with 20 year old Sony Walkman headphones :D)

I've been contemplating the IAudio range though, since it supports MP3, Ogg and FLAC which covers all of my music without having to re-encode it. Unfortunately the price tag is putting me off, since it's much cheaper to simply burn half a dozen CDs.

I would love to get a Rio Karma though, they looked brilliant, but they're not made anymore!

edit: 512th post yey!

I've a Zen which I was bought a couple of years back, but in all honesty I generally use it a portable Storage drive more than a music player. Not that the sound isn't good (I'd say it superior to the Ipod by a long way), more that I never have a need for portable music (Itunes at work, at home and too short a commute to bother with anything but a CD or the radio). Although I'm a dual user (mac for work/pc for play) I'm pretty jaded with the whole Apple 'I'm a PC, I'm a mac' pitch now. I'm tempted to buy a Zune when they become available in the UK, just to be different.
