Mac beta test starting soon

Postby Chris » Mon Oct 11, 2004 4:59 pm

We are in the process of porting Darwinia to the Macintosh platform, and will need your help to test it. Therefore we will be starting phase1 of the Mac beta test very soon. This will be identical to phase1 of the PC beta test, and its purpose will be to test the demo level of Darwinia on as many Mac systems as possible.

In order to do this we need some Mac users who are willing to help us test the game. You will need OSX in order to run Darwinia. If you have this and you wish to help, please go to our Beta Application page and sign up.

If you have already applied previously to be a PC beta tester, it is perfectly acceptable for you to resubmit your application with your Mac specs. We will select as many testers as we feel we need from the list of Mac applicants. Good luck!

Um...

HOORAY!!!

Also, Chris, please add "Other" to sound cards. I run on a laptop, so my vendor isn't in that list :/

Edit: nevermind. I see it.

I hope you're in for a lot of dents to iron, 10.3 is particularrly nasty.

If you have issues with a particular header/syntax/library, let me know. I may be able to help :)

Having an emulator run a beta of anything is a generally bad idea. I know that Uplink has NEVER run on Virtual PC without huge issues, and on a regular PC with lower specs, it's just fine.

There's much doubt that 'CherryOS' actually runs as advertised.

And it does!

Maybe I can be the first multi-platform modder if Chris owns this source code. I'd gladly mod/patch-back any OS :D

I HAVE $500 NOW! MAKE ME AN OFFER FOR THE SOURCE!

(Waits for reply that says "$501 is the price")

Hehe.

Trying to run pretty much ANY game on VirtualPC is a bad idea.. unless it's Space War or something..

Anyway, I signed up. Hope my G4 Powerbook is up to the task..

Seems time for me to break out the old hardware...

Hehe.

Availible systems:

PowerMac G3
PowerMac G4
PowerMac G5 [Dual processor]
iBook G3
PowerBook G4

MacOS 10.1-10.3 all on legit CDs (can install old systems for betas. Not 10.0 or 10.4 (yet :p))

Hmm, I only *just* realized how much Mac stuff I have... :/

Actually, I've got an G3 iBooks running 10.2 along with a newer G4 iBook running 10.3 lying around and I'm getting a G5 REALLY soon (i.e. as soon as the slowest ground shipping possible brings it to my dorm) for my Bryce 5 renders and graphic/photo manipulation.

Can we submit more computers for testing aside from the one (867 MHz PowerBook G4) that we've already submitted for beta testing?

This must be the first time in my life that i have actually wanted a mac.

Aw well.. My decision was made and now I'll be living with it.

Good luck to all in the "draw".

I believe that this was said not to do somewhere on the beta form.

The best thing to do in any case is give the specs of your most unique system.

In betas, IV isn't nessessarily looking for the best computers, but instead, want to see if computers that are less than "the best" can handle their product.
