Problem running Uplink on Arch64 Linux

I've installed Uplink with patch 1.55. I've tried installing both with a package build found in the "Archlinux User Repository (AUR)" and manually unpacking the uplink.zip file found on the CD and inflating the patch files.

When ever i try to run Uplink, it crashes with the following error:

However, no debugging iformation is written to the debug.log file

I've tried runnig with both +graphics_safemode and -graphics_fullscreen, with same result.
