Uplink Elite + patch 1.55 + Ubuntu 7.10 + Double Screens

Postby zedtux » Sat Mar 01, 2008 4:18 pm

Hi all,

To begin, I'm French.. Ans so, I'm very sorry for my english...

SO ! I've install Uplink Elite Hacker on my Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 x64.
I've found the patch 1.55 on this forum.

When I launch the game, the game start on my 2 screens...
I've try the first option to have the game in a window...
Ok... The game is in window... But on my 2 screens..
( The only different, is that I've a title bar ... and I game move the window)...

So now, mu goal is to change the game Resolution !
I go to the Option Menu, ans Display Option.
The only one resolution availaible in the game is 2560x1024...
(My Desktop Resolution).

I've try parameter to force a resolution ... ans it work ... only for the logon screen !
I've a windows at the size of my desk... but the logon screen is at the resolution passed in parameters...
Other screen are fullscreen....

With that problem, my only problem is when I click on the World Map, to select hosts... I can't see any button to validate or cancel my choose... so, i only can quit the game (hit F12)....

What can I do to solve my problem please ?? :D

Really good question, I most say that you already tried pretty much anything I could have told you about (windowed mode, command graphic size, ...).

Out of curiosity, what is your graphic card and what _driver_ and version are you using?

Have you search on Ubuntu forums about similar problems with OpenGL/SDL games?

Thank you for your answer.

Ok, My graphic card is an Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra. And I use this driver available in the Ubuntu Synaptic. (nvidia-glx-new).

I've found a solution ...
( Not famous ... but that work. ).

The goal is to open a new X Server in a window. To do this I use Xnest. And I launch Uplink in this X Server.

If someone is intrested by this, I can write an how to.

Salut,

Cool idea on using XNest - I used to use it for testing multiple window managers on Linux.

I finally got my sources from the Dev CD built, but cannot find the area on the site where the source patch for the upgrade to v1.55 is - it looks like they did not add me to the developer area.

It would be too bad if there is there is nobody administering this forum anymore...

Could you please either send it to me at rehartley@omnivoir.com or nudge Chris to do something about it. I am not sure if there is a time zone issue between Cambridge UK and here in Ottawa, but he has not been answering my distress calls,

cheers!

-Rob (a.k.a Jen - she bought me the dev CD, hence her name...)

To back to the subject... I don't understand why Uplink don't let me choose between standard resolutions like 1024x768 or others ... ?

And most importante, correct the resolution bug when use the parameter to force a resolution where only the logon screen is sized but others screen are in fullscreen mode...

I've never had resolution issues with the latest patch (see the latest patch forum, in my sig), and 1024*768 has always been an option. If that isn't a solution, it may be a drivers issue - try to update your video card drivers from the manufacturer's website.
