Fix to the networking/game usability... [SOLUTION FOUND!]

Postby Eran- » Mon Nov 13, 2006 3:50 pm

This is a problem I think many of the players of Defcon might have encountered, including me.

Below are some links to which I am referring to in my text:
http://forums.introversion.co.uk/defcon/viewtopic.php?t=2085

So, we all know that when we buy a game it is quite expectable that it WILL work without configuring
your network connections over and over again. Or at least, you would like the Game to work after
you have reconfigured you network settings (referring to NAT problem, which didn't appear to be my problem)
and in the end you notice that you're still in a dead-end with no ways to get around.

Link #1 includes the main problem most of the users have, wrong IP address or a NAT problem.
Link #3 tells the uncomfortable solution to this problem.
And last one link #2 is about my problem, which isn't the same in number #1, but it is solved through link #3.

Link #3, bad_haze wrote:Problem resolved:

Disable all network connections in your control panel.
Reboot.
Try to launch Defcon and make a new game.
If this works...
Quit Defcon
Enable network connections one at a time and try to host Defcon after each enable.

Finally people may rejoice, problem solved eh? Or then maybe they can't.
This is quite harsh solution, and I found out from my case of scenario, that this works for the
single player game only, I can't download the server list at all.
My debug file tells that Defcon is able to connect
to metaserver correctly, but has some kind of a problem with client writing data.

I tried port forwarding, disabling firewalls, reading FAQs and much more. But it seems that this
problem is not even been fixed, as I haven't seen any kind of status report on this case.

This is just my own humble opinion, but isn't it supposed, that game work as easily as possible without
ripping your own hair off your head as you try to fix this problem yourself?
And if this problem is being fixed afterall, aren't the critical bugs affecting to gameplay supposed to have much more
higher priority than the candy features which are included in the latest patches...?

My intention is not to insult anyone, but this problem has been noticed, and it has been talked in these forums,
but I haven't found an easy solution to it yet. I really like Defcon as I've played it so far, but I hope this problem
could be fixed, since I find it quite uncomfortable and not-so-fun to disable my internet connection if I want to play as I
might have MSN, IRC, downloads etc. before I start playing.

I hope this could be fixed asap...!

:)

Solution to this was found. Sorry for my short-tempered postings.

But I'll leave this post here, and if you have this same problem, check out this post.
