Postby e2003de » Sat Sep 03, 2005 9:25 am

My Dad got me Drawina yesterday;
He downloaded it on to his computer, i used mu USB stick
to put it on to my computer.
Installs fine, but when i start the game
just a black screen. Nothing else.
Do i need to wait for the disk?
Can anyone help :cry:

That method should work fine... unless there's a bug with the downloadable version.

I'd suspect it's a problem with your graphics card, try getting the latest drivers and see if that helps.

In the Darwinia folder, there should be a file called 'preferences.txt'. Find that, and open it up with a text editor. It is possible that changing some of the graphics modes may help. The first thing that I might try would be to add the line 'RenderLandscapeMode = 1' (or 2 or 3). Also, try increasing things like 'Render[xxx]Detail = n' -- this should force lower quality graphics. Finallly, you might want to switch it to windowed mode by changing the 'ScreenWindowed' setting (i.e. ScreenWindowed = 1). I don't know if any of this will help, but at least the first one is worth a shot.

Welcome to the boards, by the way.

What's xander doing on the Windows issues? :twisted:
---------------

Ah, no .txt?

Create a preferences.txt where the other 3 files are and put these things in:

Code: Select all

ScreenWindowed = 1

RenderLandscapeDetail = 0
RenderWaterDetail = 0
RenderBuildingDetail = 0
RenderEntityDetail = 0
RenderCloudDetail = 0
RenderPixelShader = 0

BootLoader = Firsttime

Don't forget that extra line after everything. Before everyone bashes me for a partial .txt, remember the spanish language pack and his bootloader question?

Or try these prefs. And change these lines:

Code: Select all

ModSystemEnabled = 1
BootLoader = random
Mod = DarwiniaEarth

to look like this:

Code: Select all

ModSystemEnabled = 0
Mod = none
BootLoader = firsttime

What drivers are you using for your video card? As Darksun said, you need to make sure you have very recent drivers. Can you tell us which version of what drivers you are using? My suggestion was only to be tried after Darksun's...

You won't get much from this spec. Sadly the best advice I can give is to update your whole computer. Sorry.
