Crashes and ncftpput?

Multiwinia crashes when I play 4 player against the computer, unlimited time, and domination mode, 3 starting powerups, in Monument, and Holy tree.
It begins to load, and then crashes. Where can I find the debug report?

Also, what is ncftpput? Its in my Multiwinia folder? What is it?\

OK, I've had this bug before I didn't know why it happened and it happened irregularly so I figured it was my computer's fault or some other factor that need not be reported.

I just now tried to reproduce this in 1.1 Retail and the latest beta 1.9.34. And crashed 1st try on each versions Here are my steps:
start a domination game with the map "monument to the heavens"; set game time to zero; 3 starting power ups and crate time of 10. I go back and hit start

the loading darwinian spins a little and then crash to desktop then I try to test the beta:

rinse and repeat with the exact same steps, then a crash.

I tried again with 1.1 retail:
this debug is after a few attempts to reproduce this error, I think it took a couple of tries but it did crash

I believe it's either a program used by the auto updater or more likely used in MultiwiniaSupport.exe to send crash reports

That is indeed more likely, or it is a leftover from the betas.

Confirmed for Monument to the Heavens, and I couldn't get a blackbox.txt either. I don't get the crash for Holy Tree, though.

(Sorry. I may have had this same bug with the betas, but I had pumped the startup powerups to 6 and was blaming it on that.)

I just now tried it on the Holy Tree and I got a Crash on my first try.

Why are you thinking it's ncftpput.exe related???

It was used in beta to upload benchmarks. This is disabled in retail.


If there is no blackbox.txt, then you want ERRORLOG.TXT, CRASH.DMP. (In fact you want them even if there is a blackbox.txt)

the thing is, those files aren't created when this crash occurs. I tried the crash in the retail and the beta and it doesn't produce those files.

and when I was trying to get you these files I was able to cause this crash my first try on the retail and the beta.

the only thing I can really give you is that windows crash detail thing when it asks you to close the program

I can reproduce this bug in every version. No special circumstances..it's like clockwork. The best fix for me is to not edit the game time and starting power ups.

Also he just wanted to know what the file was, he didn't say it was related to the bug.

here is how I reproduce this bug:

I start Multiwinia up (retail or beta-doesn't matter)

I select Single Player then Domination and then the Monument to the Heavens map
Then I click on Advanced Options and change the time limit to 0 and I put starting power ups to 3.
And then I get the crash after I hit "play", the Darwinia does spin half a turn or one and a half turns before it crashes and I get the usually windows close program dialog.

The crash is more likely if I set starting power ups to 3, but also does it at 1 or 2. The time limit doesn't matter, as long as I change it. If I leave it alone the crash is irregular but it still happens. If I don't get the crash then I exit Multiwinia altogether and try again. It's more likely to happen if I start it up once rather than exiting the game to the menu and go through the steps again, but it still happens even if I don't fully exit the game.

It doesn't happen in Multiplayer though. But I've only tried to cause this crash a couple of times.

In all honesty it's just a minor inconvenience, unless more people had this problem.

skull13: Are you running Vista and what are your basic computer specs? Any anti-virus?

I use Vista with the latest updates. Intel Q6600, ATI 3850, 2GBs of RAM, and onboard Realtek HD sound. I also run Avira Anti-Virus and that's it. Just want to see if they're any similarities with our systems.

Out of pure curiosity, does installing to a new directory (ie: c:\games\multiwinia) solve it?

Does changing processor affinity solve it?

I installed to C:\Multiwinia (and C:\games\multiwinia for the hell of it) and it still had the crash, and changing the affinity to only use one CPU had no effect either..still crashed.

'c0000005' if I remember correctly is access violation (ie: trying to read from a bad memory address), and code address '00070bbb' is outside Multiwinia.exe code space, must be crashing in a windows .dll like kernel32.dll :(

Try renaming 'Multiwinia' profile folder to 'Multiwinia.bak'?

I tried that.

I then installed it to C:\Bioshock and it still crashed. Change the exe name from Multiwinia.exe to Bioshock.exe and even Crysis.exe but to no avail.

I can live with this bug, I usually only change starting power ups if I'm playing with bots anyways. But if you have any suggestions that I should try I'll do them.
