DEFCON Icon (part deux)

Postby Montyphy » Sat Sep 02, 2006 1:54 pm

Just a repost of the list from "DEFCON Icon" before it gets lost among the other posts. Also added a few more icons of my own.

For hi-res icons (like in Mac OS X) Monty's two-color globes are like gods among men. But for the 32x32 or 64x64 we usually contend with in Windows (any larger in Windows Vista, I find, is cumbersome), xyzyxx's single submission (which is currently the officially chosen icon in the current beta) is probably the best. For Linux, it's really not much different than Windows as far as desktop icon size goes, though desktop icons are less common.

Just my opinion on the matter.

^^ FTW!

I like the globes, but I don't think that they would scale well. Also, they are basically just circles, which would blend in with every other icon out there. This is a problem with xyzyxx's icon as well, much as I like that icon.n I just adore the big red button, it has a unique profile, and it scales well.

I prefere the big buttons with the Nuclear Hazard symbol on them. My personal favorites are Chittix' square and circle red buttons (with the appropriate symbols of course).

EDIT: although jUngle's second idea is quite good too (the Nuclear Hazard symbol with "DEFCON" written into it). Would be perfect as the official icon in my opinion.

Either my browser has them cached or its a problem on your end.

Its a 5, since there are 5 stages of alertness. Although a 1 would make more sense since thats when nukes fly.
