This is a story about the defcon player currently named Vulture. He was once Python-079. Before that he was Online Security. 
When he was a newplayer he was Jetflyerdeb. 

The line of defcon players back to the beginning is long and illustrious. Though many have faded away. The defcon traditions they began continue and passes too each of us. 

One of those old traditions is for pros is too take into our care newplayers in search of knowledge. So with a nod to the defcon gods I instructed Jetflyerdeb in advanced combat tactics. And we could play game after game till he got it. Then when the moment was right, take a new nickname and shed his newplayer origins. Farewell Jetflyerdeb. Hello Online Security. 

How many of us remember the game when we ceased to be newplayers and beat a pro.
I remember my game, the setup the territories and the pro I beat. And as is our defcon custom after the banner win flashes and fades, my victory is noted by only one word from that great defcon player. 
In chat he writes, gg. 

Online Security, we are both In a 1v1.
At the time of this game, OS has never beaten me in battle. The opening salvos of fighters the battle commenced. His panzerflotte moving my way. Our fleets close the range. The fire from his massed bombers is murder! 
I adjust my position and send fighters, I take a moment and scan the battlefield, the way to Paris is not open. Then In chat I write "You Shall Not Pass!!" I fall back, trade water for time. Keep my navy intact. 

Then out of nowhere real life intervened. 
Apparently OS was a slob, his room was a disaster zone and his mom was on the warpath. We paused, so he could move a pile of clothes from one corner of the room to another corner.
When we resumed in his big push he had lost fighters and bombers and as defcon 1 was near. He pulled back in good order, his honor intact. He very nearly killed me off in his opening move. 
The middle act went about as well as the opening. From bad too worse.
And as we neared the final act. 
I look to my units and all that remains is one radar, two airbases, a few bombers and three shot up battleships that simple refused to die. 

Defcon tradition is clear. No quarter will be asked of thee and no quarter given to thee. We shall go on to the end. 

The last minutes race by.

Then the OS banner win flashes across my screen and fades.

In chat I write, gg.

P.S. The art was made in 2021 with some of my thoughts written as well. It's true to the best of my recollection. Thought the passing of knowledge was at an end for me. Had a training game on vc with kezza and a newplayer a while back and It went wonderfully. So our defcon traditions continue.

I just read through this amazing thread "A little bit of Defcon Propaganda 2012-2021" from start to finish, and I'm truly impressed by your creativity, Lord_Haw_Haw! The idea of taking classic wartime propaganda posters and adapting them to the Defcon reality using the call signs of actual players is simply brilliant and very original. It adds a very special atmosphere to the game and the community.

I was particularly impressed by your description of the creative process for the Airburst poster – searching for the right art, working with the meaning (the pilot facing a nuclear blast), the technical challenges of merging the images, especially considering you did it on a smartphone! It shows incredible dedication and creativity. It was also interesting to read about the "Boot Hill Neon" poster and your interpretation of the WWI artwork.

It's clear you put a lot of thought and effort into each piece, tailoring the style and concept to the specific player you've played with. It's a fantastic way to celebrate members of the Defcon community and document a kind of "history" of your game sessions.

Thank you for sharing these with us over so many years! Are you still creating more posters like these? It would be really interesting to see new works, or perhaps learn which of the posters you've created is your personal favorite and why?

I'm primarily on defcon discord now. Come and find me. We can get a game if you want.

With one or two exceptions I get permission from every person and whilst I am not supposed to play favorites. I do. They call it glazing now.

The NW doctrine/Haw Haw Iron cross piece is one of my personal favorites, because it was a real experience. I can't go into a game with him even now and not have a flash back to that experience.

Now that I think of it I actually beat NW in a match last year. It was very close, but a win is a win,
but then he beat me again.

And he changed nicknames too.
