DEFCON Icon

Postby Leonaken » Fri Jul 21, 2006 6:02 am

Seeing as currently the executable icon for Defcon is just a black square with a white letter D in the Kremlin typeface, I think there's a lot of room for improvement that, if our homeboys at Introversion won't come up with a better version, the community certainly can. So here, let us give IV some ideas or, better yet, new icons for them to use for the game's executable icon.

Not sure how we should procede with this, but I made a couple of 32x32 graphics based on the sprites from the game.

Um, are you allowed to disclose such information about the game? I know it's nothing important about gameplay but it is something that has been given in trust.

Sure go ahead, Defcon definately needs an Icon and we'd love to see what you guys can come up with.

I'm not so good at the picture side of things, but how about a little image of a blue sphere that looks like a world, just like in the screenshots (but folded around into a globe). Or maybe a mushroom cloud.

Such iddy-biddy widdle icons! Their so cute! Why not make them larger, like on a Mac? Oh, wait, Windows doesn't support large icons! Darn!

Wha? Wait a minute! You can play games on Macs?!!! OMG!
(sorry, couldn't resist)

Some crazy vector outlines would be in keeping, but I also like the mushroom cloud idea... unfortunately I fear combining the two would only result in some hideous badly drawn palm tre look-a-like. Has to be something we can take from Wargames (are we allowed to imply that DEFCON may have some features reminiscent of Wargames?)...

What? You're a sterotipical Mac user for saying that (and I'm no better by streotyping people!).

With windows you can have icons from 16x16 to 72x72. However, at the latter size, it just looks oh-so-wrong. :P

This is another one of those situations where I should have used a smiley, isn't it? It sounded funny in my head...

everybody's forgotten the obvious here: how 'bout a good old-fashioned nuclear warning sign? or one of the newer ones that looks like a coupla upside down equilateral triangles arranged w/ a common point at the center of a circle?

EDIT:

I got to work on that  . It's not much, but I'd appreciate feedback. here it is:

im working on others, but thats the one ive finished

Actually, this: Image was one of the first ones posted... And, I like the idea, and have been working on a 128 x 128 pixel version, but I can't make the shading look right...
