Eat duration

Postby sim88 » Thu Mar 05, 2015 5:00 am

I have approx 200 prisoners..

But it seems that it take about 1 hr to get everyone into my canteen to eat...I used to schedule 2 hrs of eat time but have extended it to 3 hrs when i've been finding some are still hungry after (dunno maybe they were doing other stuff and got there late)..

So my question is, how many 'eat' session do you schedule in ???? I got 3 down @3hrs each - thats 9hrs per day my guys spend eating lol

(Which they often do ;))

Also, the best thing about my regime?
No work time. :D

My prison is large enough that even with the new daily prisoner grants, I still have a balanced income :twisted:
Also, my prison doesn't need anymore urgent upgrades, so I save my income money. Then, when new alphas with new rooms come out I can implement them straight away...

prisoners DO NOT eat in freetime, they only eat in during the time you specified. cooks will prepare food 3-4hours before lunchtime. i use 2blocks of 2 one around 8-10 and 5-7. make sure you got enough cooks and meals.

I noticed they eat cooked meals from serving tables during free time, if there are any left from 'eat' time.

normally those meals get thrashed away by the cooks, so that would be in a half hour span, depending on amount of cooks

Then perhaps it could be a good idea to assign the free time right after eat so that they can fulfill the need that is most urgent.

I'm assuming the reason you need 3 hour eat time is, your canteen takes a while for prisoners to get there or there isn't enough meals being made/serving tables to hold enough cooked meals. If the canteen and kitchen is big enough with enough staff it should only take an hour to feed all the prisoners. I set 2 eat times at 2 hours (in case of some stragglers). A serving table can hold 20 meals (holds more than 20 food but is only assigned 20 serving trays) and a cooker can cook up to 10 meals (will make more meals if food quantity is set lower). A cook can roughly serve 10 prisoners (they could cook more but there would still be dirty trays left at next meal time and food still sitting in deliveries). If you look at food logistics just before meal time a well run canteen/kitchen should have demand = prison population - prisoners currently in lock down/solitary and supply = demand when eat time starts. If demand isn't that number you need more serving tables/tables and benches. If supply isn't that number you need more cookers/cooks. Canteens should be placed in a good centralized location.

Yes my kitchen is built close to the front gate, to make it a short trip for deliveries...and the main prison cells are furthest away from the gate...

Sounds like not enough food is being pumped out for the inmates. Try adding more stoves and fridges and cooks if need be...

okay, yes then your prisoners have long travel ways. The canteen shouldnt to far away from the cells, its easier if you hire more cooks, who transport the food to the kitchen. My canteen is the central of each of my cell clusters. But i also getting long travel ways, cause in the meanwhile i have im building up my 6th cell cluster with 100 prisoners. so my programs are far away, also sometimes my prisoners from cleaning cupport walk around whole prison.

but i have 3 eating times with 2 hours.

im using 12 fridges for each 100 prisoners, dont use to much fridges, if u have multiple kitchen. the kitchens will hoard your food, and therefore other kitchens get delivery problems.

also i have lots of cooks, and lots of cookers. cookers u cant have to much i think. so my kitchen just need about 2-3 hours to get all the food out, needed at eating time.

my setup 100 cooks, 6 kitchen, 6 canteens, 5x12 fridges + 1x6 fridges, 5x50 + 1x12 cookers, my 6th canteen is smaller, thats for the protective ones ;-)

@trixi, if am reading right you say that you use one cook on 12 prisoners? i have always one cook on 5 prisoners never calculated again with the last alpha but maybe not a bad idea for me... i think i can still save some money.

no, you miscalculatet.

if u set my numbers together you have to calcuclate

p = prisoner
f = fridge
c = cooks

12f = 100p
f = 100/12 p

5*12f + 1*6f = x
5*12f + 0,5*12f = x
5,5 * 12f = x
5,5 * 12 * 100/12 p = x

5,5 * 100p = x
550p = x

100c / 550p = 1cook per 5,5prisoner

if fact my quote is about 1cook per 5,2 prisoner as the cell block hasnt exactly 5x100 + 50 prisoners. the real number are 92cells + 1 holding cell, 5*96cells and 1*36cells + holding cell
now my count is similar to yours, but there are still lots of reserves

but i think u could do 1 cook / 10 prisoner.

my main thing i said was, that i use 12 fridge on 100prisoner thats 1 fridge for 8,3 prisoner. This number is important, that all your canteens are delivered with food. If you build more fridges, the food will be hoarded at the kitchens next to your delivery room, or if you take less, your food runs out while cooking.

i think 1 cook per 10 prisoners should work, if your logistic is setup very well.

btw cooker = object, cook = person ;-)

1 cook / 12 prisoner dont work,

2nd test run with 1/10. worked very very close. last deliveries of cooked meals where about 1,5hours after beginning of eating time.

so i would recommend minimum 1cook / 8 prisoner. More is just better :D
