Help us decide what to prioritise next

Postby Chris » Fri Oct 19, 2012 12:22 pm

We have a number of big updates to the game which are in various states of completion. Some are virtually finished and others are just experiments right now. We want you to let us know which of these big updates sounds most interesting to you.

We can't guarantee that the top voted item will be in the next alpha, because it may be a while away from being finished, but we can guarantee we will read this poll and adjust our work plan accordingly.

Note: This is not a complete list of everything we are planning. We have other things in development as well :)

Some explanations:

-Fog Of War : You lose visibility of indoor areas unless you patrol with guards (or use cctv)
-Emergency services : Controllable firemen, paramedics, riot police that can be called in during emergencies
-Only Guards Open Doos : Instead of doors opening automatically for prisoners, guards must unlock doors with keys.
-Prisoners dig escape tunnels : Obvious really
-Sector permissions and zoning : Eg all prisoners in "Zone A" have to stay within Zone A, automatically arrested if found outside. Similarly "Staff Only" zones.
-Prisoner Classifications : Different types of prisoners who have different capabilities / needs / threats eg more dangerous "Max Security" prisoners

Absolutely, I'd be happy with any of these to play with.
I really like the idea of Prisoner Classifications, but I'm not sure how well this'd work without zoning, so I've picked zoning.

argh, can't decide!

EDIT ok I went with zoning, that seems like it'd be the most fundamental mechanic out of the bunch

Prisoners dig tunnels:

Now you say it's obvious, but depending on the AI/logic of how it works completely changes its desirability from my perspective.

If it would just be random, something that 'just happens', then it would be a pointless and frustrating addition. However if it were quite smart, accounted for wall/floor materials, access to tools, and actually took place over an extended period of time, then it could make for a really interesting dynamic. Ultimately I feel that the player needs to be able to control how likely this is to be able to happen.

Multiple prisoners in a single cell with a bunkbed should be a priority imo.

But out of the options above, I've gone for prisoner classification.

I'm glad this isn't a this OR that choice, else I would probably cry. I went for zoning, if only because I've just built a prison that demands zoning lest it all fall to pieces. Fog of war would be nice, but I think it'd be more annoying than anything unless we had zones and classifications of prisoners.

Why is there no "all of the above" option? :(

Because that would be the exact opposite of prioritising.

Such a difficult decision! I went for sectors. It seems to me to be a pretty core mechanic...
