Virii graphic problem (patch 5.11)

Postby Neuromante » Tue Jul 24, 2007 7:44 am

Hi all!
I recently installed the latest patch for Darwinia; I played the demo level (nice new effects, VERY pretty) and everything seemed to go perfect. Until I started the campaing.
I'ts just a graphical glitch concenring the virii: The graphic it's *just* plain, and don't adapt to the terrain, crossing elevations inside the elevation itself (and you only can see the begining and the end of the virii, as long as the rest of it's "body" its inside the elevation, going over a depression and so on.

I have Win XP, and a ATI Mobility X1400 graphic card on board.

Can you post a screen shot?

Yeah, that's a common graphical quirk. I never thought much of it. :)

Uhmf, and there isn't any way to correct it? Until I installed the new patch I didn't have any problem

You didn't?

That's odd; perhaps someone can confirm this?

Change from OpenGL rendering to Directx rendering. Your ATI Mobility X1400 most probably don't support the features needed for the new effects.

I've been playing Darwinia on my new (NVidia card) rig, with the old 1.4x patch. Never seen that issue, that I can remember, but I'll go back and test the new patch on my other rig...

EDIT: bleh... I forgot that the 1.5.x install got corrupted somehow... lame...

So, there isn't any way to fix the problem? Looks like I can't choose between Direct X and Open GL.. :(

I don't think that anyone has ever thought of it as a problem before you. You could fix it by turning entity detail down, maybe, but I am not sure that will do what you want it to do. I suggest that, if it is really bothering you, you consider that Darwinia is a virtual environment, and that virii represent a corruption of that environment. Of course they should behave oddly.

lol, yes, it's a way to see the problem.. Anyway, IT'S a bug, as long as with previous versions the virii behave "normally" in those previous versions.
Anyway, thanks for the answers!

Why? It might be an added feature ;)
