The Diabolical Scripter Project

Postby The GoldFish » Fri Feb 02, 2007 7:19 pm

Yes yes, so I was making that VILE VB CREATION of a scripting program; Scriptmaster 5000.

This program is badly coded and not amazing to put it mildly, but, it IS SORTA HANDY I GUESS, especially to those who don't necesserily know what they're doing.

Here's a screen grab of the 3 tabs in action;

ubershot!

This is a very much GETTING STARTED tool, it can't do everything in the world currently (and probably never will.

The program and the source are available at this location

Feel free to leave your feedback in this thread, unless it's about the quality of the coding, in which case, you've had almost 2 years to code this yourself, if you wanted one that was nicely coded you ought to have coded it yourself!

The first and most immidiete problem I expect people to have is those of you trying to use it on a resolution lower than 1280x960, as the program is quite tall, which may one day be adressed...

Nice, I checked out the program. Should be great for people that can't script. :) ( READ: Hi martin )

Having someone else do your scripting for you is not "a program." It is being intellectually lazy.

allow me to rephrase using English...
your name is Xander when you're mean.
your name is xander when you're nice.
I think you know what zander is.

elyea

(btw, your name is officially xander right now)

Perhaps you should try counting those comments again. ;)

Yes, that's all very nice, but what I actually need is people to have a go at using it. I've been making a start on Retrowinia and have, surprisingly, been finding it quite helpful; especially when I couldn't remember the show logo command.

edit -

patched to 0.5; no longer resets views etc when saving
now supports 100 lines instead of only 30
clicking line numbers allows you to add text in/remove empty lines

Correct! This looks like a really handy utility - I'm just learning to script myself, and just to have your app pull all the info into one place so quickly is really nice! Any chance of making it work at 1024x768, tho?

Yeah, probably, it's far more likely now that I've put in the scrollbar thingy so you can have 100 lines instead of just 30, I just need to tweak it or something... (I'm usually using 2048x1536 so I didn't really think about it in development!)

Gimme a day or something I guess?

Hey, check the scripter page again, I've made 0.5.6 much shorter so it should be usable by people who, regardless of their desktop res, can probably use it with Darwinia running too.

It fits on less than 1/4 of my screen so I'm going to assume it'll fit on 1024x768 now! Basically I've just added another tab and moved maps/missions to there pending any further development, and made it only display 20 scripts at once instead of 30.

I'm hoping to leach location names and mission files for enterlocations and setmissions, and possibly let you double click a mission file to grab the camera names. Maybe put stats.txt, game_unlockall, basic readme templates, that sort of thing in, or at least just banana/stop signs saying if you're meeting the requirements of a nice non scummy mod.

edit - fixed! 0.5.6 is up now (originally said: Note if you're checking this right now, it's still 0.5.5 uplaoded but I just found a bug and need to fix it for 0.5.6, which I haven't done yet but am posting about it like I have!)
