360 Release = Same as PC?

Postby kikinchaz » Fri Sep 12, 2008 1:19 am

Just wondering if the 360 release date will be the same as the PC version.

I noticed that you can prepurchase MW on Steam now but overall I'd like to get the package on the 360 to play on a nice HD TV with my buddies, however I'm impatient and dont want to have to wait if the 360 version is months away. This period for games is far too busy to buy both so I have to make a decision :(

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it's not coming out at the same time and Multiwinia for 360 may not be coming until the end of the year.

I forgot if it was Kotaku.com or ShackNews where I saw that first. But even if the end of the year estimate is wrong I think it's safe to say the versions will be released at different times.

Support the company and buy it twice :P

I don't know where they got it from, but Wikipedia says Darwinia+ is scheduled for December this year.

Xbox360 entry on IGN. I generally got all my sources from articles about Multiwinia, as the main rule of the NDA is that you can't disclose anything that you can't prove is already public knowledge.

Being said it can be difficult, as most articles are dated to March, which was when IV originally announced Darwinia+

I see cheers guys. Guess I'll be waiting then unless I get some spare cash. So many games I want coming out its absolutely insane, and if I had to choose I'd love to play Darwinia through again on a nice big TV.

Will the PCs and Xbox360s be able to play eachother online? Now that would be cool. :)

Actually I wouldn't doubt it. With a game like Multiwinia I'd say it's very possible.

I'm sure it's technically possible, but I'm not sure if Microsoft would be happy about it, after all they want to make people buy an xbox live subscription - so any company that dodges the live system and runs their own metaserver is gonna be unpopular :P

Uh, just because a game uses it's own server list doesn't mean you can prevent the game forcing the player have have a Xbox Live Gold Subscription (we've had this discussion before). I know of only one (and I know there's ONLY one) game where you don't need a Gold account to play online: Final Fantasy XI (because Square wanted their own pay-to-play subscription service and Microsoft didn't didn't want to lose the game on their console).

Of course, it is perfectly possible to do cross-platform play, if Introversion made the game integrated with "Games for Windows - Live". But how "Games for Windows - Live" works for Linux and Mac games is anyone's guess. My guess is "uh, no, you can't do that".

that was what I meant, you'd need to play through windows live on the PC end, and I can't imagine IV doing all that as well as a non live multiplayer system.

Even if there are fundamental conflicts between the proprietary MS stuff and the regular plain TCP/UDP/IP stuff, there's no technical reasons not to give the PC version compatibility with both. If MS did their homework, the XBox code should port easily to Windows. XBox and PC players could then play together, as well as PC, Mac and Linux users. All can only play together if the host is running the PC version.

Of course, there are plenty of perfectly fine reasons not to do that.

I'm quite sure there are already games for Windows that connect through XBL to the 360 to let you play multiplayer.
