I am now throwing my hat into the ring, if only to give the better players someone to nuke.

Player name: Mike the Wookiee
Time Zone: GMT
Times: 9pm until 1am (2 if pushed). Except at the weekends, when it's pretty much anytime.

Any rules you like, but I think that if it were possible to get the scoring to add up, you could have the 3-leg final with all 3 scoring systems to get an all-round bestest player type thing. Thnking about it though, it probably wouldn't work as the default game would skew the pionts too much. [retracts the idea, except if it turns out to be good after all]

I'm in

Player name: Cooper
GMT
I can play anytime from 18:00 to 00:00 on weekdays, most reasonable times on a weekend (i.e: Not friday or saturday nights nor early sunday morning)
Whoever you vote for, the government wins.

Good good, the signups list is really starting to take shape guys, keep 'em coming :)

And I see your point mike, that is a pretty good idea, I'll take it into consideration when the tournament setup is decided.

Hmm... the main difference between default vs genocide and survivor is that default awards 2 points where others only award one (although the others offer no penalties other than collateral). It is possible that the scores come closer for each mode if the score in default mode is halved or the other ones doubled. Effectively, this would be the same than playing default with 100 population and playing the others with 200.

I do not believe the biggest difference between geno/default is the offensive scoring. As far as I'm concerned the difficulty level is this:

1: Survivor
2: Default
3: Genocide

Survivor is hardest simply because there are more factors to tackle and your score doesnt directly affect your position.
Default is again harder than genocide because it has a defensive aspect to it which can definately tip the scale.
Genocide is just pure aggression and the more offensive you are, the better the score. Needless to say number 1 & 2 are my fav modes.

If anyone has any feelings on how this tournament could be set up, such as how many people in the final, what scoring system etc, feel free to list them here, and I will take them into consideration with Ace. =)

Just thinking about it, I would say default setting in tournament mode or survivor.

Both seem to be valid and more in the spirit of Defcon.
  1. Default - Tournament Mode: Everybody is familiar with this (default) setup and would allow the most opportunity for the most players to advance through the ladder system likely to be set up.
  2. Survivor: Well, what can better be said than... "...maybe you can lose the least..."

I currently don't beleive any other setup other than the two above should be considered.

Survivor sounds like a good bet, as does Tournament mode. Personally, I would go for Survivor, but it's up to everyone :)
