Most of them are probably illegal, or people wouldn't post them here.
KeyGens are definitely illegal.

Where I work at Fry's Electronics, we did sell Uplink (both Mac and Windows versions boxed) for a short time. Then we stopped for no apparent reason. Is it because we did not get a license for retail?
Also, I read somewhere here that this game has been out for almost 8 years? I find that hard to believe, since Ambrosia didn't distribute it until 2006 or so. They also distributed Darwinia around the same time i believe. Fry's carried both games at about the same time, and stopped at about the same time.
Another question: why do I not see any links to the Ambrosia website(s) anywhere on IV site?

Uplink was released almost 8 years ago, and it was available on the mac fairly shortly afterwards.

Stores tend to only stock new releases or popular items on their shelves due to demand and limited space so it's likely the store stopped stocking Uplink in order to sell newer products. On another note, Fry's Electronics wouldn't need a licence from Introversion to sell boxed copies, the company producing and supplying copies to the stores is the one who would need the licence.

Uplink was released for Windows and Linux on October 1st 2001, over 8 years ago.

Remember to pay attention to the date of when posts were written. ;)

Ambrosia has been distributing the Mac port of Uplink since May 27th 2003. Perhaps you're thinking of distribution via Steam which began August 23rd 2006.

Darwinia was released for Windows on March 4th 2005 and Ambrosia started distributing the Mac version on March 30th 2005.

You mustn't be looking very hard. If you go to the Introversion store, near the top (under the Introversion banner) is a link to Ambrosia (the image stating "Running Mac OS X? Click here!"). Also, if you look under support, there is a section for MacOS that links to Ambrosia. Finally, if you try to download the Mac demo version for any of Introversion's games there are links to Ambrosia (Uplink, Darwinia, Defcon, Multiwinia). Ambrosia are only responsible for porting and distributing the Mac versions, they aren't the creators of the games, so obviously their name isn't going to be plastered all over Introversion's homepage.

Latest Uplink patch is v1.55.

I ran across Hacker Elite on the Gamestop website and figured I'd pass it on to you guys. Here's where I found it: http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?Product_ID=63256
They also incorrectly list Strategy First as Developer as well as Publisher, giving no credit to Introversion whatsoever.

By the way, Strategy First is still selling it for download from their site as well.
I may have a paltry number of posts, but I've been around since the Pre-Nakatomi days.

It's sticky. It's nice that you care, but there's no need to keep it alive if you don't have a real contribution.

Yeah... that isn't even remotely on topic. Several years ago, the company Strategy First was granted rights to sell Uplink in retail environments. Strategy First went bankrupt, stopped paying royalties to IV, and continued to sell the game. Thus if there are shops that are selling Uplink: Hacker Elite (the Strategy First version of the game), they are making money selling a game for which the producers of that game (i.e. IV) are not getting paid. In such a situation, IV have legal recourse.

The Pirate Bay, on the other hand, are not selling the game. They are making it possible for people to illegally download copies of the game at no cost. There is not much that IV can do about that.
