A game bug (bigmap+ip lookup)

Postby Peter-kun » Fri Sep 01, 2006 2:09 am

Hi there!

When I open the map and then try to use ip_lookup on one of ips not in my server list, that ip with its name adds to list. It is where the bug starts.
All of server names on the map begin to jump randomly near their points, and when I close the map ("Cancel" button) and move cursor over server list, game crashes.

Without doubts I wouldn't do it once again, but is game supposed to act that way?

Here goes a part of debug.log file:
===============================================
NEW GAME 3:41, 1/9/2006
===============================================
Version : 1.31
RELEASE
Win32 Build
Version 1.31 (RELEASE)
Compiled on Sep 9 2002 at 16:53:38
(code-C)(code-M)(code-T)

<lots of successes at saving>

An Uplink Assertion Failure has occured
=======================================
Condition : largemap
Location : C:\Development\Uplink\source\interface\localinterface\worldmap\worldmap_interface.cpp, line 639
============== B E G I N C O R E D U M P =================
retAddress = 004CCCD3
============== E N D C O R E D U M P =====================

btw When I load previously saved chain with one of servers not showed on the map, server names do the same, ie jumping randomly near their points. It is avoidable, but unpleasant.

I use DX9.0c & GF6800GS video card with latest drivers. The bug is resolution/fullscreen/window independent.

Try using the new 1.42 patch if you haven't already.

Server jumping is not completely solved in the latest patch version. (iplookup and world map would still do server bouncing). The problem is the way the algorithm for server placement works. When a server is added to the linkscreen the layout is restarted from scratch.

Thanx, found it.

Btw, why there is no link to the 1.42 patch here??? Why the 1.31 is called latest?

The newer patches are all betas. Eventually there will be one that will become the next official patch.
