IV hint at console titles

Postby Taedal » Fri Feb 16, 2007 9:58 pm

Apologies if this is posted elsewhere.

Interesting, no? Live as said in other threads would be a smart move. And if mac and windows is interoperable, why not mac, windows and 360..? Thats a big user base could only be good...

(of course I have my hopes pinned on defcon ds but that's a whoile other thread.)

Sounds good, a wider customer base would probabley leed to more titles being released. The only problem is that expansion into the console might leed to a move away from the PC market.
Also Defcon DS would rock.

Oh, if only. MS would never allow anything like that, Vista - 360, mabye, but that'd be the limit.

I can't read the article right now, as it is blocked, but there has been much speculation about Darwinia on the XBox for quite some time now, since the IV logo appeared on an MS banner. Now that Vistawinia is out, I'm not so sure that the logo wasn't related to the Vista version, but it seems possible that it could show up on the XBox, as well. The port would be trivial at this point, I think.

As to Defcon on the XBox, I don't know. I have seen no evidence to indicate that it might happen, though I have also seen no evidence to indicate that it won't...

I'm not 100%, but I think it's pretty easy to port a certified 'Games for Windows' game (which Vistawinia is) to XBox 360 - after all, the X-Box 360 is Windows (kinda) and DirectX based isn't it? Even the control scheme is worked out, so it'd just be a case of compiling a 360 version and maybe ironing out a few bugs.

I believe the whole 'Games for Windows' standard is designed to encourage products for the 360, by requiring cooperating developers to include the necessary 360 compatibilities - e.g. with the controllers - and as such making a port to 360 simple in comparison to porting to other consoles. Even if this doesn't simplify the process, it gets the developers in the right mindset i.e. gee, we've done this much, it can't be too hard to convert it to 360 and rake in a little more cash.
So I'd agree with you.

Defcon would be a neat DS game, but could you imagine a wireless multiplayer Uplink DS where you would compete against and "hack" other players?

Defcon on the DS would be very cool. However, the DS is way underpowered for it. Such is life.

That sounds more like a complete overhaul of the game concept than a simple port. Plus, there's a lot of text reading involved if I recall correctly. It seems like this would be difficult on the screens of a DS.
