Worst Console name EVER......
Hello.
We have had some odd named consoles/computers in our time
the Bandai pippin... (really a Mac in disguise)
The BBC.... (A computer named after a TV Company)
The RX-78 Gundam (A cheesy computer named after a cheesy robot show....without the blood and guts and war and annoying kids and stuf)
But no....
Nintendo have now topped the list.
The originally named Ultra64 became the Nintendo64
The originally named Dolphin became the Gamecube
The originally named Revolution became....... The Wii
I just hope their late with their april 1st jokes.......
Will someone PLEASE tell me that there site was hacked?
Edit:
Heres a summary of the reason of the rename:
"Introducing… Wii.
As in "we."
While the code-name "Revolution" expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.
Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.
Wii will put people more in touch with their games… and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?
Wii sounds like "we," which emphasises this console is for everyone.
Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.
Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.
And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.
So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.
Because, it’s really not about you or me.
It’s about Wii.
And together, Wii will change everything."
Erm....yeah....sure....whatever

Erm, why did they change it? Revolution was pretty damn good for a console name.
Uplink help: Read the FAQ
The BBC is a strange name cause i had to ask my parents for a "BBC" for christmas one year. They looked confused at each other and bought me an Acorn Electron anyway (which is the same thing believe it or not)....
Wii is an odd name because if you read it right, its pronounced "Wee".
And i ain't takin the p***.
Just imagine it. A little kid in an electrical store. He asks his parents for a "Wii" and they arent sure whether to laugh or to take them the toilet....

But if you look across the forums - pennyarcade, 1up, eurogamer, IGN, gamespot, all of them - I haven't seen this much fuss over a title since.....since.....ever, really. At least Nintendo is having a bit of fun.
And they are right that everyone will become used to it eventually, nobody laughs when I say I am flying on Virgin airways etc., the name loses its literal meaning to be replaced by the object/franchise that it is associated with.
I am a 'fanboy', but frankly I neither love nor loathe the name. I just find it amusing how much furore it causes.
