Should we enable avatar support in the Uplink forums?

Postby John » Tue Feb 21, 2006 12:16 am

Traditionally only signatures have been enabled, however, if this is generally desired, I can enable the avatar support as well.

The main thing to realise is that the avatar you choose in your profile is global to all forums. Signatures, however, are only enabled on the Uplink forums and are not visible on the other forums.

Yes, that's what I said - and it wasn't the point of my post in the IV lounge.

Perhaps, could we choose a separate avatar for each forum?
Some people talk because they have something to say. Others talk because they have to say something.

I actually prefer avatars to sigs, they break up the flow of the page less. Is it possible to let the user choose to not view sigs?

I don't think it is a good idea to have both avatars and sigs enabled (too many pictures). Of the two I prefer sigs (though without images if it were up to me). At least sigs can be somewhat useful (links to websites and such) whereas avatars are pretty much useless. :)

Personally no avatars for me. The Uplink forums has never had them, so why bother. Keep it a bit old school.

That being said they wouldn't change the forums that much, so why not?

Well, since opinion on the matter is divided

Would it be possible to let each choose whether they want avs or sigs to be displayed. Also allow each user to set both. That way, as far as I can see, everyone would be happy.

Just I'm not sure if it's possible with phpBB

I'm sure NeoThermic could hack it to do that if he put his mind to it.

Ya but what makes you think he'll use his mind for something useful?

Nope, don't enable avatars. It fits the tone and style of the game to have as little graphics as possible on the Uplink forums.

I like the way it's been for the past half-decade. Just info and title over there.

I think we should all change our signatures to avatars, just to confuse people...

Seriously though avatars are great, and anyone who doesn't want one doesn't have to use one. :D

For then we of the social elite may look down upon the "non-avatar" pariahs with enmity, incredulity, general disapproval, and incessant grammar- and punctuation-correcting (ha!).

Yea, it has been spoken. Yea, it shall be done. Well, maybe.

Actually, I've changed my mind.

I prefer the sigs in the Uplink forum, keeps some originality.
