How did I get caught???
So I was just sitting there reading the news bulletins when a message suddenly pops up telling me I have been caught hacking. Yeah, I know all about passive traces, but I was careful to delete my logs and cover my tracks. I also routed my connections through financial institutions to avoid being caught. What happened??? Gah, I spent all night playing this and now I have to start over. How can I stop this from happening?

First, this topic has come up many times. Use the search button.
Next, where are you deleting your logs? If you are deleting them off the server you are hacking, its useless. Make your first bounce point InterNIC every time, and delete your logs from there.
If your doing that, make sure you're using Log Deleter v4. All other versions are useless after the very first few missions.
If you're doing all that, GET FASTER.

It doesn't matter if you can't see the logs on some of the machines you bounce through (eg. phone systems) but the passive trace can still pass through them.
