surely, by being a l33t h4x0r0r0r0r you prove that you know nothing?
and has this person actually asked his school's sys. admins. if they can unblock these sites? he may even get a reason why they don't want to give access to these sites,

Oh, and who was the modem-head who invented 1337?
It evolved over most of the 1980s in BBSs, mostly MSDOS-based ones. A lot came from typos (pwned: o is next to p on qwerty boards, but you already knew that) but most was probably out of a desire for the BBS-inhabitants (aka skriptkiddies) to be different.
I wonder, when people think about "hacking", what do they mean?

Thanks to the media, very few people actually understand that what is thought of as "hacking" is actually "cracking", and that hacking is a perfectly honest buisness. The concept of hacking using programming skills is something I have actually been laughed at by friends for suggesting. It is a completely alien idea to 99.99% of the 1st world population.

One thing that really made "pwn" famous was a StarCraft patch that had the familiar typo in it. ("The Computer has pwned PlayerA!"). Not correcting ya, just adding a bit.

damn it didn't work dose any one else have any idears cos i need it so i can get on sites like cokemusic and my hotmail please help
You don't need it. It's cokemusic, and personal email. You're there to learn, and they probably block it for one (or more) of a few reasons:
A) Personal surfing ties up bandwidth that could be used by students doing research.
B) A student was caught wasting time surfing sites like that.
C) Money. The school/county might have to budget for the bandwidth it uses, and they could be trying to cut back on unnecessary usage. (You didn't think that was a free connection, did ya? Every bit, every page costs your school a little more cash).
D) (For Email) They are making sure you can't email yourself things like porn, illegal files, viruses, etc. I know in my school, if you needed an address for a class, they assigned you one. I had one my senior year. And my email was filtered through the county system.
E) Spyware (or virus/trojan infected sites). It's time consuming to keep a system clean of it, they have to pay someone to do that routine maintanence, and it's probably cheaper to pay for software to block sites like that.
There are more reasons, but these always seem to be at the top of the list. If it's one of these reasons, don't bother asking the sys admin for access, he won't allow it. If you do manage to set up a personal proxy, chances are you'll be caught. It's hard to hide something like that. And if they wanted to make an example of you, they could... easily.

This thread has reinforced my belief that people should need a license to use a computer.
I have been utterly convinced of that for years. It is (yet another) problem that can be attributed to Good Old Mr Gates. If he hadn't created an OS that could be used by most people (windows) instead of command-line systems that you actually had to have half a brain to use, the internet would still be the fun, geek-infested, troll-and-skript-kiddie-free place that it used to be. Mind you, there *were* BBSs back in the 80s....
Edit:
Hahahahahahahaha
Out of interest, was that even mildly funny, or just sad? Real laughter or sarcasm? I just want to know where I stand...

Hmm...
What we need is a virus to destroy the internet as we know it, and set the progress back 20 years or so....
I think I'll call it Revelation, sounds good, no?
