If you haven't heard anything yet, chances are:
a) it's just rumor
b) it's not ready yet, as some people have lifes too

My personal thoughts on the future of uplink:

Perhaps the game is a bit to easy and we all were hoping that Project AWOL and the Update were gonna make it more challenging. But I still seem to think that a multiplayer uplink with extensive research and millions of lines of code would be worth two or three years wait. Why? Because an Uplink with a large soundtrack, full online play ability (online play is the only way you could play but the regular mode would be avilable for "training") with a realistic VR Internet, millions of servers to break and hacker clans to join, battleing for the information on servers between others who have applied for the same job to see who gets it first makes one work for their money, hand written programs, Unix system hacking, Windows system hacking a more realistic verson of the game would be... ultimaltely worth the wait in my mind. However there are those who would disagree. Either way online uplink could be a good product for Introverson to create who know... It might just make them a big gameing contender...

In other words... A new concept to "Catch the flag."

sry Miah, I don't own a Mac.
it's not likely that I'll be able make it for Mac.

but hopefully someone will port it when it is done( or
when it's in progress(some time after the first stable
version) which will be around Summer 2004+)

Add: Although I plan to make a Linux(Server,
"ClientServer",Client), BSD("ClientServer", Server),
and Windows(Client) version

If the code is in C, I should be able to port...

Truth be told, I'm thinking of using my 4th OS on this machine (Win98 *gasp*) solely for being able to play with mods.

It's in C++.

Superpig: It'll be C/C++ and part assembly for specific
routines in the Servers(if I'll ever learn it), as of yet
there's no Code, mearly vague Idears.
Although I intend to make a thread in the Development
forum about this subject. Some time in the new year

Oh, wait you mean you were planning on rewriting the whole thing from scratch? I thought you were going to be reusing some code, in which case I was saying that Uplink is written in C++.

Oh, and if you plan on using assembly, say buh-bye to your port.

Nope, the Assembly is mainly for the servers parts,
which runs on Unix Only machines and only i386 arch
so it'll be portable.

try learn a little Asm, before making a statment like that.
it'll only be a problem if someone is going to use a MIPS,
or a M86000, or something like that.

but who has a SGI machine anyway or a Mac as server.

Ah, I see. So you're thinking more along the lines of an MMO game.

try learn a little Asm, before making a statment like that.

I already know a fair bit of assembler, but the fact is the language and technology is unimportant at this stage. The fact that you're even considering using ASM (which you say you haven't even learnt it yet) when you don't know if you need it undermines my faith in the project. ASM is a last-resort solution. It is almost impossible for you to produce better ASM than today's commercial compilers, especially in a relatively unconstrained environment like a PC.

How you do it is not nearly as important as what you're going to do.

but who has a SGI machine anyway or a Mac as server.

SGI granted, but there are a large number of people running G5 Macs as servers. Still, if it's MMO, then you've got control over your server hardware *anyway* so it's a non-issue.

Introversion Software is
Chris Delay
Mark Morris
Thomas Arundel
If you think Introversion is small, check out Exosyphen, it's one man.
But this one man has managed to produce three excellent hacking sims - Blue Sky, Digital Hazard and BS Hacker Replay - which is goin multi-player early next year.
Yeh, the games may involve a bit more typing, but thats what makes it more realistic, and, IMHO Better than Uplink, and yes, i have owned the full version of Uplink.
If you want to try out a real hacking sim - and want to play other ppl multiplayer, then goto www.exosyphen.ro
Trust me, its worth it. (and it's cheaper than Uplink, and easier to Mod)

Sounds a hell of a lot more like an advertisment than a post of personal opinion.
