That, or Mr. Burns's patented sun blocker. That would be... excellent.

Thank you, hellcatv, for this great mod. Nice work.

I enjoyed this mod today and thought, that polar view allow me to expand my cold war mod. That's why, I desided to make mini-mod with 3 participants: OVD (Warshaw Pact - CCCP and East Europe + bases in Cuba and Vietnam), NATO (propper coutries (French and Britain arsenals, too) + american bases in Asia), China. It is not completely authentic situation of the World in Cold War, but my mod is opend for changes.

Sorry for my English, please.

oh wow! my dream come true!

you may want to change english.txt to have the proper alliance names?

---this is awesome... hopefully you based it off the polar mod 0.5 so you have all the latest stuff ( http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/users/hellcatv/polar.zip )

Oh I understand---you activate my mod *then* activate your mod! clever...
I hope that it allows you to activate them in sequence like that---or that you just replace the bmp files in polar mod...

anyhow I'm going to try it with my dorm later this evening and let you know how it goes---I hope it's very balanced

ERTO: if it were the future, then could I go back in time to change my post?

0.4 had the bug that america couldn't place near the north pole--and would get trounced by a russian fleet that could sit there unopposed...
I'm *considering* walling off the pole entirely cus ships shouldn't travel there---but I think I would make that a separate mod (polar sans north pole) --I wanted to make this as close to the vanilla defcon with a simple projection as possible (i.e. sailable areas remain sailable)veryone here will love it

I wouldn't close off the poles, for the sole reason that subs can and do traverse the north pole all the time, albeit under the ice. :) In fact, Russia's main nuclear sub force patrols mainly north of Canada (though they mostly sit around in port these days.) The nuclear ice-breakers also can work wonders in certain spots, even for normal fleet ships.

Besides, the north pole really WILL be transversable by normal ships within the next 50 years, so just pretend this is the future. :)

I have tested this mod and I like it but, fleet pathing is off, you should fix the polar regions (remove some of the islands on Russia's side that block fleet movement) indonesia (just remove it has no tactical value to this game) and the straights of magellan (remove antartica?) otherwise great map, best mod of them all!

I think the pathing is correct, but it just has to go roundabout to get through landmasses.... I'll take your suggestions under consideration---the only thing I wouldn't want is for folks to have different versions of the mod and not play each other--- the computer seems to know how to go around the islands--but basically you have to go around japan to get to the rest of the world...

if you want to try your hand at editing sailable *and testing* i'll almost certainly include it

Great mod.
Very interesting but it is painful for "Southeners". Perfect for cold war however.
Good job.

HORAY!!!

This is excellent... going to download it now.

What happens when you play on big world map (i.e. 200% scale) - does it still work?

This is awesome, can't wait to fight world war III over the weekend.

This sounds fantastic... this is exactly what I've been longing to play, but lack the programming skills, and hope that Defcon can be suitably modded to allow this.

djdemo: I packaged it up nicely so it has a version number for 1.2
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/users ... ni_mod.zip
I marked it as version 0.51 (because polar mod is version 0.5 and this just modifies the sailable thing)

if you download beta 1.2 and load it up you can find other people to play since it tells them which mod you are running

How did you make this...?

Did you first scan other files or hand draw it?

I only ask because I'm trying to find a good map that is just concentrating on the polar projection, and not worrying about latin America and Africa. I only play this at most with 4 people, so wanted to try and maximise the game space, as I'm only using half of your map at the moment.

Is this something easily done?

Alas, my IT creative skills are somewhat lacking!

seems to be a problem -- ships can sail into russia, not sure where from.
