ok just to prove that you can be caught when you use a a school computer. i have logged onto this board from school much as i am doing now, and have made posts. ok im not to bright i amdit it. i overlooked a few peices of information, i was cuaght for unathorized access on the schools computers, for punishment i am only allowed to use one computer in the whole school, and that is the one in the deans waiting room, i am allowed free roam of the internet still, but i am not allowed to log myself in or log myself out, and they have keylogging software, and ghosting software. so they keep me pretty well watched now, i was able to stay in school but had to formally appolagize to the teacher in front of the class, and transfer out of his class taking a zero for the semester.
now the way they caught me was.

the admin gets the history, and visits every site that his computers went to, when he got to the computer i had been using he noticed that it had logged into this site.....
ok not in trouble yet....
i go home and log into this site and create this thread....
still not in trouble.....
logged onto this site from a computer in school yet again, visit this thread, no posts.....
oops, this is where he gets suspicous, he reconizes the room numbers, and log in style form my first post, thinks to himself, wich student confronted him about said problem......
this is where the trouble starts.....
he keeps an eye on this page, this thread in particular, he notices an incedent that recently occured at school(the backgounds), decides to investigate.....
he knows its me already hes just lookin for proof....
he sends an email to several students asking them to test something for him.....
im one of the lucky 1 that gets the e-mail i later find out that the other 10 email address it was sent to were fake.....
i log onto the site where the information about the test is stored....
he grabs my ip addy, from the site, and my isp....
he then was looking for proof that i was prozak from this forum......
he set up a "fan site" that was related to uplink, it was supposed to have a forum and more, so when you registered it asked for you uplink forum name(aswell as the other normal questions), so i being as trusting as i am gave it...
he grabbed my ip again.....
he now had what he needed....
my ip from an email, and from his test security site, then he had my ip from an uplink fan site where i confessed to being the user prozak from this forum, he printed out the registration page from his fake forum, the ip logs from both sites, and the ip and personal information from my isp, and this thread....
next thing i no im pulled into the deans office and a folders dropped in my lap, and am told to prove its false....
i agreed that i was quilty to their bargain for a zero in his class, no computer usage accept for the one infront of the deans office, wich has metered usage, so im paying to type this up right now. but you can be cuaght where ever you do stuff from.

Bit harsh for comming here don't you think?

What level of school do you go to: colledge/university?

But I would say that it is possible to commit crimes and not be caught, on and off the internet.

Why the hell should the admin care then?

There is nothing illegal about the site or anything, no hacking, porn or whatever, if it was then I would agree.

A friend of mine had a site with a proxy on it and eventually all the students at college found out about it and used it to bypass the filter.  He was threatened with expulsion for that, especially after 3 people were caught watching porn in class!!!

well he wouldnt have cared accept i was bragging on this site about various things i did on there computers,
gaining acces to admin, and changing the backgrounds on my teachers comp.

it just goes to show there is no way not to get caught.

Answer to that:

If someone leaves the school, ask them for their username and password before they leave, then use theirs on the system to mess about, which is traced to a student who has left and close the account and you're relativly safe.

at our school we dont have individual log in names or passwords, so that would be pointless, each computer has its own log in name, one for students one for teachers.

Sometimes they are missed...  and I doubt they will be deleted the day they leave or for a couple of days at least.

Well, my old school had a system, all the usernames started with the year you joined the school, and you were placed into a group with all the users in your year, so it wouldn't be hard to mass delete them
