Yes, this is a great place for information, but how can you expect us to go to the effort of writing a detailed reply to your questions if you don't even bother looking for yourself?  We will answer even semi-legit quesitons, but if it can be easily found just by searching, or even reading the faq, you should really find it yourself.

Not all of us Noobs are so bad, so go easy on him.  He prolly didn't know about the search feature, so give him a break.

(no not literally either.)

I learned the fuxxing game on my own, without asking questions.

Why can't other people do the same?

Because some people lack the experience or time (see NicoKhaos' post) to try the same actions in the game over and over, even the really difficult ones, to finally succeed - all without asking for help.

Well, some are just lazy... hopefully a rather small amount of people. :)

I'm a newbie too, as you may have noticed, but managed to get quite far in the game without asking for help... thanks to the huge amount of time I currently have. Hope you're not going to kick me in the butt for introducing myself, but like NicoKhaos said: "It's just manners." So please, forgive me. ;)

And yes, I can understand you all are getting tired of noobs asking noobish questions. But remember: Everyone has to start as a newbie. Nobody gets from "I-never-heard-about-it" to "I-know-everything-about-it" without passing "I-will-try-hard-to-learn-more".

Exactly.  The point is, like you put it, 'I-will-try-hard-to-learn-more'.  Not I will make no effort whatsoever to find the information myself, I will just go to the forums and make other people find it for me.
Finding information for yourself is a valuable skill, and the n00bs learn nothing by just coming here and expecting us to find it for them.

I am going to commend NicoKhaos for a sensible, grammatically correct, and entirely proper first post.  It is one thing to flame n00b posters who post things like Deepsmeg's example there (quite funny, so familar), but this was a not that.  With all the pruning that has gone on the Search function is even less useful than it was, so I can't fault people for not using as much anymore.  :)

I may not be the most veteraned of players, nor, as you can I'm sure tell, of posters, but I am, I beleve, a rather well veteraned person, and I find it rather appauling and actually offending that so many people have so little to do that they would resort to insulting a new player simply because he asked a question. While I generally perfer to sort things out on my own, people learn in different ways, and if posting a question that you may see as dumb gets him to the answer quicker than I, then I appluad him for his inginuity. And you all who have enough posts to have achived a veteran raiting should thank him for giving you another place to toss in your proverbial "2 cents" thereby increasing your rating. Shame on the lot of you. Answer the man's question and get on with your day; no one forces you to post.
If at first you don't succed, find a bigger hammer.

They may just lack the time and patience, as I mentioned above. Asking others instead of searching for yourself is not necessarily a sign of lazyness (though it MAY be, of course).

So you can 1.) be patient and try to help them nevertheless (even by simple showing them the mysterious search button), or 2.) leave them be.

But don't blame people for being noobish. Esspecially if they have proper grammar. ;)

Well, it's just that I often feel sorry for people who bump into a forum (maybe for their first time - and there is ALWAYS a first time), try to introduce themselves, ask some questions - and wonder what the hell they did wrong when  some more experienced members tell them unkindly things.

And to be honest: It happend to all of us. :P

Exactly.  I do think far too few people know how to find out information on there own, but many times it is more efficient to simply as a question.  I am a programmer during the summer and work on other peoples code, adding things, fixing bugs, etc. and while I can generally wade though the layers of code to figure out what is going on, many times this is simply not an efficient use of my time, as I can simply ask the author whatever the question is.  There is a balance to be found between searching yourself and asking others.  I also think some of us have been around so long that we forget how non-sensical parts of Uplink can be.  :)

If they aren't patient, it's not our fault.

They shouldn't have bought this game then.

Edit:
And could somebody sticky a link to the FAQ. If ikonboard doesn't support it, then just hardcode a link in.

Thank you stewsburntmonkey I pride myself on knowing how to speak the english language. And for God's sake I am a female, can anyone read around here. Joking now . :D Don't take offence. I just go to school all day and I just would rather get my game tips and advice on experience from humans not a stupid manual. Humans tend to have different ideas, which is the beauty of it, we all have an opinion of how the game can be played. I LIKE THAT. That way I learn more than one way to a solution.  I really don't want to piss anyone off but a community like this forum I have always assumed is to help others, even if it is a dumb question which I feel that I haven't asked anything that stupid to cause a fuss over. Thank you.
