Quite a few people have purchase the CD.  I would think those who did will be trying out some MOD ideas as $45 is a lot to pay for just a piece of plastic and forum access.  :)

I dont think it is a lot. I mean, it has to be a bit more expensive than the game, and it does represent a lot of work that went into it, I think it is a fair price. Often source, especially for something as good as uplink, cost a lot more.

Well the way you said 'Quite a lot considering... etc' gave the impression you thought it was too much for what it was. Sorry if I was mistaken

Many games (much bigger than Uplink) give out the source for free, though generally a good time after they are released though.  Just a thought.

IV were going to do that, in 2004 probably, but since sales of Uplink are still going strong they decided on the DevDisk idea. They'll probably release the source for free in a few more years :P

I don't know many great games releasing the source for free ever, but maybe I play the wrong games...?

I know doom did, but that was well after anybody cared about it anymore.  It's nice to have source available while the game is still popular, even if it is $45.  I mean, go ask 3D0 to release the source for MM9 or HOMM4 so that when they are gone (very soon in fact) the community can fix their buggy games... good luck!

I have the source of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and could get many others.  Its generally not publicized when companies release the code, but many do.  :)

DooM, Quake, any of IDs work in fact. They are the best company out there for releases.

Freespace II. Still new enough that a game built on that code would be worth budget prices, and they release it for free.

Abuse. A old platformer that flopped but had a fair amount on inovation. Great game.

I think Duke Nukem 3D was released as well.

Anyway, the source releases are out there, you just have to hunt for them.

Although almost all the games that sources are released for are FPS games, it's nice to have one that isn't
