Version 4.0 of the gateway guide was uploaded several hours ago. 4.0 is not an update, it's a whole new guide. I rewrote the entire guide from scratch. It now has better instructions as well as a nice neat and clean layout. Also for people who could not read the guide because they didn't have word, there is now a PDF version up along with the word 2000 version.

HTML maybe one day, plain text no. For me trying to explain to people how to do this without pictures would be next to impossible.

Why would anyone commit and atrocity such as that?! unless you were planning to go through it all using notepad afterwards. (but then wouldn't you just use notepad in the beginning, of course you would)

yay.  I figured out how to make gateways, but I'm absoulutely CRAP at it, so the guide shouyld be a big help.

I just found and fixed a few errors I had in the guide. The updated version has been uploaded, and it should also be on modlink sometime later today.

For one thing I don't recall ever having the guide requested in that format. And it doesn't matter anyway since there is the PDF version so anyone can look at it.
