I used Fraps for the capture. It works pretty good IMO. I don't know of any others as good as Fraps.

Several kinds of awesome.

More! I demand more videos!
Strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

I'm not sure we have any DEFCON launch party t-shirts left - I think most of them went pretty quickly as did a lot of the artwork on the night ;) but I'll certainly have a hunt around for you.

The vids are really meant to be examples of gameplay so good work Chris - an excellent contribution so far. We will need a couple with the soundtrack in there i.e. the string melody but feel free to experiment!

Signed boxed copy?

Does it have to be multiplayer?

Nah, I wouldn't think so. As long as it shows what Defcon is about.

My first ever attempt at video editing - don't be too harsh please! =)

http://ii.net/~bgorman/DEFCON_Grim.mov (or via YouTube (v1) if my ISP is too slow).

Thanks to Toumaz and JoshB for their tips and suggestions!

Thanks to Toumaz for suggesting the shorter static and supplying some noise to go with the snow! (Not in YouTube version)

I like the video. Good choice of shots, and good showing different ways to nuke, etc.

Critiques: The text "Conventional Warfare" "Cannot Compete" etc. was confusing at first because I didn't know you were making a sentence out of several of those, so it looked like you wanted to demonstrate the first shot was conventional warfare. Perhaps use ellipses and not capitalize everything:

"Conventional warfare..."

"...cannot complete..."

"...with nuclear power."

"In this war..."

"...everyone dies."

You might even put the first line on the same slide as the second one and use the first spot for a title.

Also, the speed is quite extreme when you're moving your mouse around and giving bombers orders, so it looks like the game would be hard to learn or a lot of micromanagement. This might turn off someone who hasn't heard of Defcon from trying it.

Also make sure to credit yourself in the movie. I don't remember seeing a name.

Good job!

Thanks JoshB, I updated the text and slowed the first action sequence down a bit.

I'm still clicking like mad, but I was playing in 1x at that point. That makes it difficult to get it slow enough while still showing some action. =\

I'm also trying to make a movie, but I've got a hard time capturing video for it :( my game keeps crashing while recording with fraps.

If anyone has some gameplay video, like some naval battles, some launches and some nukes hitting something id apreciate it.

My computer has crashed 6 times now :P and all I've got sofar is some small naval battles.

Fraps sucks the rate out of framerate. Use something different like Camtasia Studio.

All of these screen capture things cost money. The only free one I found was Camstudio, which doesn't have support for hotkeys. Apparently, Major Geeks had Fraps 1.9 as a freeware download, but that only works in 640x480 mode. Lame. :(

The free / open source community is really letting us down for decent screen capture utilities!
