Postby Kuth » Mon Oct 09, 2006 6:06 am

I know this guy has popped up trumping his site, but does anyone else go there?

Just curious.

No.

Because he's spamming this forum to advertise his forum. Bad manners.

exactly.
And he has offered me moderator-status whithout knowing me. Frommy posts in these forums, only a fool would make me mod; i am way too inflamatory sometimes.

Hello Fellow Defcon Players,

I am sorry you perceive my actions as spam, however they are 100% not. I simply have helped questions been answered such as "are there going to be any tournaments" by showing people the upcoming tournaments on the site. I am dedicated to spreading the word of Defcon because I think its a great game.

I also try and give back to our community by creating a server and simply spectating whenever I can.

I don't mind if you don't wish to sign up for DefconForum.com however I believe that the site has many unique features that has and will continue to pull in new members.

I would also like to remind everyone that DefconForum.com is 100% unofficial, but that doesn't mean that the quality is sub-par.

Thanks,

Tony

Is English not your first language? or are you stuck in formal letter mode?

He is just asking to be beno'd.

defconforum.com: A bit of advice, most of which I sent you in my reply to your email. First off, you don't need moderators. Moderators only become necessary when you have a lot of users, and not enough time to deal with the trouble makers. I looked at your forum. When I looked, you had a total of 11 registered nicks. You really don't need moderators.

Second, you should really ask people to moderate who are upstanding members of your forum. People who you trust. Do you trust me? Do you trust alphager? Why? You don't know either one of us. You shouldn't be asking us to moderate.

Just look at this forum. We have over 18,000 registerd nicks and only the IV team and one other person have any control over moderation of the forums.
Of the people who do anything, thats one moderator to every 3,600 nicks.

phpBB.com has about 276000 registerd nicks, and we have a team that is about 40 members strong. Thats still 6,900 nicks to one moderator.

defconforum.com might have a slightly gauche attitude to recruitment and yes, he's certainly using dodgy means to get people to go to his forum, but it's hardly the crime of the century and I'm not sure he deserves the vitriol and ridicule he has attracted. It's making me a little uneasy, to be honest. You can hardly expect him to have been on the forum as long as some of those here, since the game was released little more than a week ago. He seems to me to be a lover of the game and as far as I can see his site is non-profit making. I might be wrong, of course - he might be Satan - but should we criticise someone for wishing to add a little something to the defcom world? It's not as if he's trying to push Viagra or porn, ffs!

I don't know if there is any history here between people (if so then let me know & I'll stay out of it) but starting a new forum is only going to work if enough people use it & this game will need another place for player run comps ect ect. Where better to promote your spanking new defcon forum which noone knows about than the current game forum. Everyone here at least is playing the game.

If this defconforum thing takes off it'll be for the best community wise, don't you think?

Maybe I've missed the point?

Moderator wise obviously it does depend on users but a decent amount of mods can cover most of the hours in a day so there is always somebody around if you only have a couple because you don't have many users what are you going to do when 1 of you goes on holiday, 1 is ill & the other is playing a diferent game? Choas could take over

Also if your going to run decent sized player run comps you'll need all the help you can get to settle disputes & organise things.

Cheers.
worto.

By my count, 80%. The first two couldn't be trying to tout the site any harder without all-caps, offensive colouring, and/or huge font size.
