Code: Select all

The DEFCON Warning System is a private enterprise which monitors world events and assesses nuclear threats against the United States by national entities. It is not affiliated with any government agency and does not represent the alert status of any military branch. The public should make their own evaluations and not rely on the DEFCON Warning System for any strategic planning. At all times, citizens are urged to learn what steps to take in the event of a nuclear attack.

RT News: N. Korean nuclear missile capability? Pentagon says no, intel reports say maybe.

Amidst unconfirmed reports from congressmen and The Pentagon, multiple news agencies have reported one nuclear missile launcher in the upright position somewhere in North Korea. One Congressman claims that North Korea may have warhead deliverable nuclear weapons, however, a source inside the Pentagon claims that this is "inaccurate". As a note, the US DEFCON, WATCHCON, and FPCON systems are classified, so any reports surfacing about these levels are purely speculative. It should also be noted that the US entered DEFCON 2 "Fast Pace" during the Cuban Missile crisis, when nuclear capable IRBM's were also in a firing position, so it could be possible that this unconfirmed report is true.

CNN : The Pentagon's intelligence arm has assessed with "moderate confidence" that North Korea has the ability to deliver a nuclear weapon with a ballistic missile, though the reliability is believed to be "low."

Took me a while to decide whether this was some random fansite for the game or an actual warning service website.

Sadly, the latter. :(

Wouldn't the actual Defcon warning service website at least use the right colours?

No one said it was official, these sorts of things have a lot of random websites on the web. Some are surprisingly useful, informative and accurate, but that doesn't stop them from looking like shit.

"Friday, April 12, the US raised its nuclear alert status to DEFCON 3, Condition Yellow (out of 5 levels), stating “There are currently no imminent nuclear threats against the United States at this time, however the situation is considered fluid and can change rapidly.” Many believe that North Korea will launch their test missile on or about April 15. Japan has instructed its armed forces to shoot down any North Korean missile that heads toward its territory."

Update: RT News reports North Korean leaders plan to fire ballistic missiles on Tokyo if war is to break out on the Korean boarder, or, if their test missiles are intercepted.

If you care, Reuters keeps a live cam posted online at http://reuters.livestation.com/demo
Occasionally they live stream the North Korean border and Japanese/American/South Korean Air Defense.

if Japanese Land gets its own nukes it would be a complete 180 from their usual no nuke policy which has been in place since the late 1940's.

Being as Japanese Land has had nukes dropped on it in anger that's some fucked up shit right there.

P.S. Tokyo is a target for Korean Nukes and they (NK) have said so.

North Korea reportedly warned Japan that Tokyo would be the first target if Pyongyang decides to play its nuclear card.

The warning reportedly is in response to Tokyo's standing orders to destroy any missile heading toward Japan, according to Korean Central News Agency. Japan has deployed PAC-3 missile interceptor units around Tokyo to protect its capital and is taking North Korea’s rhetoric seriously.

"We are doing all we can to protect the safety of our nation," chief Cabinet spokesman Yoshihide Suga said, though he and Ministry of Defense officials refused to confirm the reports about the naval alert, saying they do not want to "show their cards" to North Korea.

Japanese officials long have feared that North Korea not only has the means but several potential motives for launching an attack on Tokyo or major U.S. military installations on Japan’s main island.

"If Kim Jong Un decides to launch a missile, whether it's across the Sea of Japan or some other direction, he will be choosing willfully to ignore the entire international community," U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told reporters in South Korea. "And it will be a provocation and unwanted act that will raise people's temperatures."

“We will stand with South Korea and Japan against these threats. And we will defend ourselves," he said.

Kerry also weighed in on an intelligence report that rocked Washington on Thursday and suggested that North Korea now had the knowhow to arm a ballistic missile with a nuclear warhead -- even if the weapons would lack reliability. Citing the Pentagon's assessment, Kerry rejected the finding and said that Pyongyang still hadn't developed or fully tested the nuclear capacities needed for such a step.

Speaking beside Kerry, South Korea Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se called for more United Nations action against Pyongyang if it commits another provocation.

He refused to comment specifically on the U.S. intelligence report, saying only that the North has "high nuclear and missile capabilities" but that it is still some time away from a nuclear bomb that is "small, light and diversified."

Kerry offered strong words of solidarity for South Korea, and praised South Korea President Park Geun-hye’s "bright vision" of a prosperous and reunified Korean Peninsula without nuclear weapons. By contrast, he said North Korea's Kim, has a choice to make between provocation and returning to talks to de-escalate tension and lead to the end of its nuclear program

Both Yun and Kerry kept the door open for future negotiations with Pyongyang.

But both seemed to suggest that they were unlikely in light of the North's increasingly bombastic threats, including nuclear strikes on the United States. Most experts say those are unfeasible based on the North's current capacity and would never be explored seriously because the U.S. response would be overwhelming against a regime focused primarily on survival.

Kerry said any talks with North Korea have to lead toward denuclearization.

They have to be really serious," Kerry said. "No one is going to talk for the sake of talking and no one is going to play this round-robin game that gets repeated every few years, which is both unnecessary and dangerous."

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

This is the DEFCON Warning System. Alert status for 2 P.M. Thursday, April 18th, 2013. Condition Yellow. DEFCON 3. Condition Yellow. DEFCON 3. Condition Yellow. DEFCON 3.

There are currently no imminent nuclear threats against the United States at this time, however the situation is considered fluid and can change rapidly.

The United States has been backing away from statements that North Korea has nuclear-capable missiles. The DEFCON Warning System has found, however, such statements to be carefully phrased and thus continues to advise the public to assume that North Korea has deliverable weapons until more hard data becomes available. Additionally, we caution the public against complacency or burn out from constant and continual North Korean threats. The situation in the Korean theatre remains hostile and the chance for misinterpretation, miscalculation, or error remains extremely high. While North Korea is unlikely to initiate any direct offensive action at this time, the psychological profile of North Korea also indicates a propensity to react with extreme force against any perceived threat, real or imagined. Therefore, the DEFCON alert condition will likely remain at Yellow through the end of April.

Tactically, North Korea has lowered its missile out of firing position and there remain no troop movements by North Korea indicating an imminent attack.

The United States is offering China a concession on U.S. missile defense as a way to gain China's support against North Korea. Additionally, the United States wishes to work with China on cyber-security, the same China that has been hacking into the United States for years.

Learning from the events transpiring in North Korea, Iran has now issued a warning that an attack on its facilities could lead to nuclear war. An interesting statement considering Iran's constant denial that their work is non-military. Additionally, Iran is to meet with Niger, a major Uranium producer.

If this had been an actual attack, the DEFCON Warning System will give radiation readings for areas that are reported to it. Your readings will vary. This system serves the Kettle Falls area of Northeast Washington. Official news sources will have radiation readings for your area.

You may also subscribe to the YouTube channel DefconWarningSystem, Note that Twitter and YouTube updates may be subject to delays. The next scheduled update is 2 P.M. Pacific Time, April 25th, 2013. Additional updates will be made as the situation warrants, with more frequent updates at higher alert levels.

This concludes this broadcast of the DEFCON Warning System.

Back to Defcon 4. - A relief!

This is the DEFCON Warning System. Alert status for 2 P.M. Thursday, April 25th, 2013. Condition Blue. DEFCON 4. Condition Blue. DEFCON 4. Condition Blue. DEFCON 4.

There are currently no imminent nuclear threats against the United States at this time, however there are events occurring in the world theatre which require closing monitoring.

Although joint war games continue in Korea between South Korea and the United States, both North Korea and the U.S. have backed off their aggressive rhetoric somewhat. This coupled with no troop movements or other indicators of pending offensive action gives reason to believe that the current crisis is beginning to ebb. We continue to caution the public that there is still potential for flare up due to both sides being on a hair-trigger alert and thus prudent preparation is still advised in the event of hostile action. Analysts also believe that North Korea will eventually take unannounced singular aggressive action sometime in the near future using conventional weapons, however this time South Korea has promised a stronger response.

Regarding the situation in North Korea, the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff is optimistic that China would curb North Korea's nuclear programme, despite a lack of evidence supporting such a view. Meanwhile, North Korea has moved two short range missile launchers into firing position.

China has announced plans for a second, larger aircraft carrier, while both Japan and China cluster around disputed islands. Japan has stated that it will expel China by force if China lands on the islands, while China has removed its commitment to a No First Use nuclear weapons policy from a recent white paper. China also has deployed an anti-ship ballistic missile on the coast facing Taiwan, expecting to utilize it against the United States in any regional conflict.

If this had been an actual attack, the DEFCON Warning System will give radiation readings for areas that are reported to it. Your readings will vary. This system serves the Kettle Falls area of Northeast Washington. Official news sources will have radiation readings for your area.

This concludes this broadcast of the DEFCON Warning System.
