Joshua! Or, the Easter Egg thread

Postby Dark Phoenix » Sun Oct 01, 2006 10:58 pm

Well, aside from the as-yet-undiscovered function of the tornado and UFO graphics, I have found and empirically verified an easter egg in Defcon. If you name any computer player "Joshua," they become insanely intelligent/difficult; the only games I have ever lost to AI thus far have been against Joshuas. Anyone from IV care to verify this?

If anyone else has discovered easter eggs, please share!

if you turn number of cities to 1 Birmingham becomes the capital of usa.

I was pondering about the UFOs and such, and I asked myself what locations might be most closely related to UFO's.

So, I played around in the bermuda triangle...fighters disappeared, but that was because I had nuked the area to oblivion and they perished in the radiation:P

Then I had the bright idea of inserting Roswell, NM into the cities list, using the GPS coordinates provided by Wikipedia, but I must not understand how to alter the cities file properly, becaue I could never get it to generate over about 15 games.

Some cool discoveries so far. Nothing as elaborate as "Pepper" in Myst III, but quite original. Hopefully we can keep them coming, keep this thread alive. I'll compile a list & edit first post if there are enough.

Only cryptically. Here's the hint to all who don't know what I'm talking about: Look in Main.dat.

there are a number of easy to use, widely distributed applications which can open it for you. You just need to know what it REALLY is.

The clue to it's identity can be found at its begining

The program itself doesn't matter so much, as there are a number of them that can handle it. As stated, though, you need to know what you're dealing with.

Answers come from within.

Also, you don't need a hex-editor to find the clue I'm trying to direct you too... even a simple text-editor can see it.

Well you've made several posts now when just one post with an answer as to what program to use to read the file would have been much more appreciated. :?

I don't feel like just spoon-feeding it to you. If you really wanna know what's in there, I've given you enough information to find it youself.
