So here is a poll for you: when you do your dishes, how do you do them?

Wendryn and I do our dishes by hand. We do actually have a dishwasher in the house, but we haven't actually used it in years, so if we were to turn it on now, the no doubt rotted out seals would probably leak all over the place. We just don't generate enough dishes to justify using the dishwasher.

I rinse my dish thoroughly with water (and sometimes soap) immediately after using it.

The majority lands in the dishwasher, but because I only have a (very) small one, I wash all the cooking pans and the somewhat larger things by hand.

By hand, with soap and sponge. Unlike my housemates who just seem to splash a bit of cold water on them...[/rant] :P

also, xyzyxx, you should always use soap. you can't see bacteria ;)

I wash by hand, with washing up liquid. Once we move to our new place, it has a small dishwasher, so may use that instead. Depends how lazy I feel at the time.

When I do dishes, they go into the dishwasher. Having kids, it's a lot better at sanitizing things than I am.

Also, Jelco does fail... Perhaps if the bar had not be set so high early on... :P

Is there a brand of dish soap that isn't hyper-concentrated? The brands I know of (Dawn, Joy, Palmolive etc) require only a drop or two of soap to wash a whole sinkful of dishes. What would I use to wash only one thing?

If you have the dishwasher, and want to be able to use it at all, I would suggest that you make sure to run it every week or so. If it doesn't get used, the seals dry out and rot, which makes the dishwasher a poor thing to use.

Hmm, yes that is a bit of a waste. But I think I'm a bit of a hygiene freak, and I'm quite happy to waste a bit of liquid :P

At the moment, I use the dishwasher... she's called "Mum".

My sister has one of those. Lazy sow.

I tend to wash things as I use them. However, I'm the only one with that attitude, and am thus prone to "Ah, fuck it. No one else gives a shit."

There are four of us living in my house, so the dishwasher gets very well used :P

Q: When your dishwasher is broken, how do you fix it?
A: Slap her around a bit.

Hopefully Wendryn doesn't read this, or I will be in trouble.

Dishwater, usually. In the times when it was just me and my brother we usually did it by hand, and later when I was alone during the week I found that if in 2-3 days I produced enough dishes and stuff to fill the dishwasher.
