Oceania Region?

Postby unclejimbo827 » Sun Oct 01, 2006 1:39 am

Surely there's a reason Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, etc. aren't included, but what is it? Is it jsut that there's no room in the server setup or a desire for an even number or what?

This is a good question. It occurred to me that adding one more faction might help balance gameplay better (at least, for Asia).

Then again, maybe it would be quite the opposite.

I was about to post about this - the only explination that I can think of is that it'd pretty much be out of fighter range for everyone but, then again, that's not really much of a problem.

Could it be down to population? There's only 30-40 Million people in that region.

I think that I saw somewhere that since this is based on the Cold War era, they went with the six main regions involved.

... that doesn't explain Africa, though.

I think range/population is probably the best gameplay reason.

I think it might have somthing to do with them being so small. If you where to pick Austrailia it would be rather easy to defend unlike continents which are more spread out.

Well, the offical reason is as such:
Australia has no nukes.
New Zealand has a prohibitation on nukes on its land, so they have none.

Ergo, who are you able to play with if you choose Oceana? ;)

wrong, wrong, wrong.

Its because IV did their homework.

Any decent RISK player will tell you that if Australia was playable, the game would be hopelessly unbalanced in their favor.

Every seen someone hole up in Australia for 8 hours , fending off the entire combined armies of the world superpowers?

Yeah, imagine that, but with nuclear arms.

Of course, that could be a much better reason, but we like to go for 100% fact, rather than what a "decent RISK player" would tell us. Although their insight is insightful. ;)
