Favourite games apart from Defcon involving the Bomb......

Postby Cnl_Death » Thu May 22, 2008 11:14 am

Curious to see what other games people enjoy playing that involve nuclear weapons...... :D Personally it's Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour. I just love to build the bomb over and over and over..... (Record of 168 nuclear weapons) 8)

Hardly the main focus on the game but Supreme Commander had a good nuke system even if it wasn't the focus of the game, it was like surprise naval assaults: not the main force but could leave someone crippled if they failed to see it coming. I remember being on a 2v2 with a pro and newbie on each side (I was the newbie by their standards). I managed to cause a lot of trouble to the other newbie but left my base defenses severely lacking as a consequences. Needless to say in no time at all half my AA had been bombed flat and was immediately followed by massive convoys of air transport. I managed to hold ground long enough for my all to send a transport into the pitiful thing I had the nerve to call a base an retrieve me to the cover of his nicely pentagonally laid over lapping shields, star formed AA and zig-zagged point defenses. I was pretty much useless by that point so I just sat back as an incursion of like 12 Monkey lords tried to rip through our enemies line of T2 artillery and swarms T3 assault bots. That ended up in a stalemate and the mavor the enemy had built couldn't fire fast enough to penetrate the shields. So both sides switched to nukes focusing about 50 assistant commanders on the missile silos, which meant that they fired at rates of about one every 10 seconds. Needless to say due to the massive strain and Supreme Commanders fairly crappy network service it crashed but it was fun while it lasted.

"The bomb"? Why not call it what it is, nuclear weaponary.

Take your pick. C&C: All of them.
World in Conflict.
Supreme Commander
Crysis
I could list more, but in all honesty all RTS games tend to feature nuclear weapons to a degree, and even some FPS ones do too.

I will never get over the crassness and blatant racism/exploitation of "current affairs" in C&C Generals.

World in Conflict (especially if you can get enough TA to drop three)
Fallout 1&2
C&C's

I think that, of those listed, WiC's nuke is the most entertaining to use.

I've only ever played one other game where you can launch nuclear weapons, and that was Rise of Nations. (The first time a nuke hit, I thought something had gone wrong with my monitor  , the screen turning all white and that).
A game I'm really quite looking forward to is Fallout 3, though I don't suppose you'll get to launch anything much more powerful than an RPG in it 8) .

A little different, but Civ IV had nukes. With the MAD mod, it was a fun way to end a game you didn't care about.

Funny how small they can make WOMD these days.
You might not even need a silo, try a pin cushion. :P
"Surely you didn't mean to press that button just then did you?"
"No, nor will i disarm the nukes."
"Oh well, I will have my Fighters shoot them down."
"Sure you will."
"Oh NOES, ITS BEEN PATCHED!!!"

The problem with Civilization and nukes is that you have to take care of the aftermath. Nukes are fun while you launch them and see them killing millions of evil souls. But cleaning up the mess sure spoils it. This is why Defcon is better than Civ!
