I disagree, I think that it means that you will have X number of years more of ideological indoctrination by your parents without having your own information and opinions on the matter. Holding off one's education makes you even more dependent upon the sociological upbringing on the matter since you lack the education to make rational and informed decisions on your own.

I don't think lack of knowledge is ever a good thing, I was just referring to actually making up one's mind on the matter. (Though I don't really think you should ever permanently make up your mind given any party or government can do things badly for reasons entirely separate from their ideology, so I guess I don't really know what I mean :))

I'll admit that as a Political Science major I'm biased on the matter, but to me waiting to pay attention to politics until you are able to vote makes as much sense as a doctor waiting until the day of a surgery to study medicine.

well that's a good point, thinking about it my political interest isn't totally nonexistant, since I'm 17 so I'll be able to vote soon, I take some interest in political matters but for example I don't usually read the in depth articles about politics in the paper, I might just flick through the politics pages on teletext instead ;)

Just watch the news :/ I'm a year younger than you and I already know more about it than you.

Granted, I study Modern Studies at school, and I kind of have to pay attention to modern politics, but it's not hard to know what's going on.

well I do watch the news a lot, the most popular channel in house Evans is channel 80 (that's news 24 for everyone without freeview or not in the UK), however I pay a lot more attention to Science and technology reports rather than politics.

Wouldn't it have been easier to just say News 24?...

When do you have time to watch the news? Shouldn't you be fixing your video card?
