Cram that into one word.

Hey, more name ideas from your favorite name spammer! These are not all compleat names, but some partial ideas I've had, like the Italian names for tempos as a way to indicate that these wars are speed wars, not strategic simulations. Also, in a sense, the players are performing artificial selection on the DGs while natural selection is culling the players... a kinda neat meta which probably can't be squeezed into a name. The last suggestion, Wazaga Wars, comes from a nym I saw on a message board. Why not go all Lewis Carol Jabberwocky and come up with an evocative name which is utterly meaningless, but cool? DGs go hand-to-hand with vorpal sabres. And lastly, it might be nice to tie the name's tagline to the Darwinia tagline somehow, like in the third to last idea, a digital warscape.

cunning defeats any strength
rollerball meets calvinball

manic panic
manic titanic

allegro, vivo, presto
Stretto - rushing ahead; temporarily speeding up

evo-destructivo
artificial selection
coevolution
coevo

colour clash
chromacide

surging tides
volatile

clobberfest - crush the competition

blunderbits - a digital warscape
blunderbits - best generals & worst souldiers

wazaga wars

Mass Extinction : a digital warscape

Selection by Mass Extinction : a darwinian warscape ("darwinian", not "Darwinian")

Mass Extinction : the end of the Darwinian Era

Survival : a darwinian warscape

Digitalis : war is a cardiac stimulant (or digitalin or digitalins)

Digitoxin : the fun kills (or "too much fun will kill you" or just "fun kills" or "war is a shot to the heart")

Digitalins : they love war games as much as you do (where the "Digitalins" = the tribes of Darwinian war gamers)

The Smell of Napalm in the Morning

Do Digital Warriors Dream of Electric Napalm in the Morning?

Electric Napalm : WOOT!! (a new weapon for the Invaders! only found in the ace of crates)

Ever notice how the DGs resemble the Red Queen's card soldiers? Then the game of Electric Napalm would be akin to a cross between speed poker and the card game War. I can't yet think of a decent title using this image... but you could dole out DGs 52 at a time. And if multi-player means 4-player max, you could add card suits to the team colours. Oh, and can you change the invaders to Flying Hedgehogs? and add some Pink Flamingoes too?)

Yeah, and http://darwinia.net redirects to http://darwinia.co.uk . Coincidence? I don't think so! ;)

More likely they bought all the darwinia.* domains long ago (you could look the dates up in a registry somewhere I'm sure). This is kinda standard practice to prevent typo-squatting and leech sites.

If by .* you mean only .co.uk and .net, then that is indeed the case.

As your comment piqued my curiosity, I did a whois lookup on the domain. The following is what came up:

Code: Select all

Status:ACTIVE

So, two things pop out at me:
1) The domain was registered only a few months ago -- after the announcement of Multiwinia (or around that time, at any rate).
2) The domain was registered by Andrew Welch, el Presidente of Ambrosia Software, the Mac publishers of Darwinia.

Things just get curiouser and curiouser...

EDIT: uh, I'm totally wrong. "darwinia.com" is a bookstor... nope, a squatter, so I guess Mas Tnega's got the full list. Google is my driver. I rarely type in urls anymore. Someday soon I won't even be able to operate a calculator.

...and darwinia.com clearly shows a creation date of 1998, so 21-Jun-2007 isn't just the latest renewal date. It still may be just a preventative measure. Now that IV and DEFCON have become bigger fish, they may be securing domains in anticipation of the next release. Or they could be planning to use darwinia.net as a game server url and maybe ambroisia is being contracted to administer or write some of the server-side code?

Dunno. But I remember Chris was pretty emphatic that they wanted to break from the Darwinia name. So unless they've given up on finding a new name, I find it hard to believe. And how could they possibly fail? I mean, they call their workplace The Flying Hamster! They still got some creativity in 'em.
