Defcon igUK LAN tournament Grand Final
The Grand Final of the Defcon LAN tournament will be held tommorow, Saturday 1st September, in the Omega Sektor LAN centre in Birmingham, UK. 30 of the best Defcon players from around the world will converge and meet in a titanic clash of tactics and genocide. Chris, Mark, Tom and Vicky will all be in attendance, along with Gary (Icepick), Leander (elDiablo) and Ashley (NeoThermic).
Each finalist will play a number of games during the day, to fight for a place in the grand final. The grand final game itself will occur around 5pm - a six player free-for-all between the best scoring players on the day, played out on ambx enabled PCs projected onto spectator screens for all to see. It's going to be an amazing sight. The winner wil be going home with a Philips 50" Ambilight Plasma screen TV. The losers will be living in a radioactive cave for the next 10,000 years.
Big thanks to Philips, amBX, and Logitech for funding the event and the prizes, and helping Vicky sort everything out. And congratulations to the 30 players who've made it to the final - we'll see you all there!
Visitors are welcome, so feel free to drop in and say hello if you're nearby.

I've been asking all over this forum and still haven't got a response ...
I cant get the recordings to work, How do I do it?
Check the Mod Projects forum for a topic about a "Homegrown Dedicated Server" called Dedcon.

While I'm sure those participating are quite good, I would gather that there are many who are far better who are not in attendance. The LAN, while I"m sure quite fun for those involved, is more a contest between those who lived nearby or who happened to have the disposable capitol and free time to travel there then it is between the "real top DEFCON players".
If you want to see the real top players I would suggest you play Ace Rimmer, Hyperion, SQR, etc.

*still has a bitter taste about this tournament*
I agree with what Feud said, the LAN tourney was more of a tournament of opportunity for those that were nearby...i travelled 40 miles by bus after a night shift to get in this thing...grrr...the anger...grrr...lol...*sigh* , oh well, c'est la vie.
I hope any future official tournament will be accessible through the normal server system rather than LAN centres please?.

Well, it was run by igUK, who's whole operation is based upon LAN centres...
Also the top player of the final 30 coming into the final had a score of 78 points, or 13 first-places in 6 player matches. So as long as you were able to play enough matches, you would have qualified for the final

Was a great event, theres some details about the day and some pictures of the players here. This will be updated to include all of the scores soon.
GAST-Mojo (Real name: Abdul Mojid) won the event and was crowned champion.
I expect Introversion will be putting up their own news about the winner aswell.
