An awesome piece of news for Linux users
A frequent question recently has been ''will we ever get Defcon for Linux?''. We're delighted finally to be able to confirm that you will! Chris and John have been working hard on the Mac and Linux versions making sure they all operate perfectly with each other and PC users. The Linux beta test began today and we're hoping to release it at around the same time as the Mac version in March. Linux users can download the beta version from our Beta Test Discussion forum if they are interested in helping us test it.

Once it's released, you'll be able to download the Linux executable for free as a demo version, and if your Steam 'authkey' file is present in the installation directory it'll run the full version (assuming the key is recorded the same way as the windows version. So no, you shouldn't need to repurchase to find out if it works. Check http://www.montyphy.f2s.com/defcon/defconfaq.html#NoSteam for a lengthier explanation.
Also, because you'll be able to download the demo, you won't even need to transfer the key across to test if it works on FreeBSD.
