Lyric Wars!

Postby Ace Rimmer » Wed Feb 14, 2007 9:11 pm

A companion to picture wars.

And here are the rules:

Basically one person posts a line from a song (any) or a set of lines, and another user has to try and beat, or destroy or compromise that post.

For example, if I had posted a line from What is Love (think SNL), the next post could be something like "a Cadillac sedan passed us by. The remark was made, That's the car for me." (Hot Rod Lincoln) You can use part or all or even different sections from the same song in one post, but only from one song.

If the lyrics are from some obscure song, or if you just want to, post the song title/band/singer etc.

As always, there should be some rules to stop it becoming repetitive and pointless, and they are:

Use your brain
Try to be funny
The post must be from a real song

To start (and for an example)...

the countdown starts

watching in a trance
the crew is certain
nothing left to chance
all is working
trying to relax
up in the capsule
"send me up a drink"
jokes Major Tom
the count goes on

4 3 2 1...

Late one night
When the moon was green,
Around the corner
Came a turd machine.
A shot was fired.
A scream was heard.
Major Tom got shot
By a flying turd

Ground control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?

It kinda runs with, not defeats though. Not sure if I get this.

Simple: Think Picture Wars! using lyrics instead of pictures.

But just lines or whole songs? They're more fiddly than pictures.

To get this back on track, since Major Tom got shot...

Night creatures call
The dead start to walk in their masquerade

Thriller

Edit:The post below is very clever, see how easy it is?

I've tried to find some common ground
somewhere I can be unbound
by the preconceptions we have found

True strength is choosing your own side
when different worlds collide
Do you stay silent
to seem strong inside?

Do you really wanna be another face in the masquerade?

I'd been thinking of starting something like this for a while - though with song titles able to beat either preceding song titles or the band's name e.g. 'Gold digger' might be beaten by 'Taxman' and the like. Lyrics probably work better, though (as long as people don't quote too gratuitously and make it a slog to read). Any my lame attempt:

Wouldn't be right without some Metallica...

Soldier boy, made of clay,
Now an empty shell,
Twenty one, only son,
But he served us well,
Bred to kill, not to care,
Do just as we say,
Finished here, greeting death,
He's yours to take away
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast...

Come on, man!
How is it feelin' over there?
(Wake up and live now) All right!
(Wake up and live!) Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Uh!
Come on, man!
You gotta wake up and live!

Free to speak my mind anywhere
And Ill redefine anywhere
Anywhere I may roam
Where I lay my head is home
