Makers of viruses, I will kick you in the eyes
*MSN messenger beeps*
"Joe says:
lol check:P wwwuglyphotos.net/photo223.pif"
Joe being a good friend on my contact list, and me being tired and ready for bed, I clicked the link with no real thought.
Even when it turned out to be a download, my unknowledgable and sleep-demanding brain saw nothing suspicious about it being a .pif file.
*click*
"OH FUCKING MERCY FOR THE LOVE OF HENDRIX AAAAAARRRRGH"
Even as I type this, I'm battling through a storm of unprovoked popups, forced closing of applications, automated downloading of trojans, and ghostly attempts to run messenger and spam all of my contacts with the same message I recieved from good ol' Joe.
See you after the format.

Gah.
I use Firefox. It was a download, not a website link. I won't deny that I'm dumb for not having my suspicion aroused by the unusual nature of the file, and not asking what it was first, but I was tired and, well, I'll readily admit that I'm a bit slow anyway .
I've reinstalled all the essential software and copied my pictures and music back across from my backup drive. I didn't really lose anything since it's not been long since my last format (see the 'Windows x64' thread in the General forum). Let's just say I've learned something today.

GENERATION 22:The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.
Messenger auto opens links in your default web browser, IE is daft enough to run/ open/ whatever the bleeding heck it does the PIF file. Firefox doesn't.Deepsmeg wrote:And that would help with Messenger how?!
Well, mabye, but it'll still make writing javascript easier if most of the browsers would react the same way.montypyth wrote:Stop encouraging people to get Firefox! If FF becomes more popular than IE more "hackers" will start targeting its exploits.
