DEFCON Tournament underway
Our Beta Testers are currently running through the first ever Defcon Tournament, and Round 1 has now come to a close. 18 Players were selected from the Beta volunteers, and they've played in 3 games so far with 6 players per game. The top 3 players from each of those games goes through to Round 2.
We plan to run a number of Tournaments after the games launch.
You can see the status of the current Tournament here:

We've seen some astonishing acts of violence and betrayal so far. Playing games that are part of a larger Tournament increases the tension level for everyone, and also makes the Alliances even more trecherous - Players are free to plot and scheme in advance of the game.

Agh, it's a torment seeing all these people from the forums playing the game!
I really hope I'll get into the next IV game's beta.
EDIT: by the way, is there any prize for the winner(s) (including the post-release tournaments)?

Notice that SuVir was the only green. The other two teams were his enemies, to his west; The American force of Aaargh and LLamaBoy, and to his east and north; the EuroAsia force of Nutter, fireship4 and danielkarling. If SuVir was part of the EuroAsia alliance he could have worried less about his east and north coasts.
