The DEFCON website

Postby poorsod » Fri Sep 22, 2006 5:34 pm

Just noticed that the countdown timer is an hour out. This is because it is set for 6PM GMT, while it is actually British Summertime at the moment. You may wish to change that - 6PM BST = 5PM GMT.

Just to clarify, we are not in GMT at the moment. The clock is set for GMT, it should be BST.

You know, the Introversion Store says specifically:
DEFCON will be released on 29th September 2006 at 6pm GMT. So the clock is correct. The game is being released at 7pm BST.
Some people talk because they have something to say. Others talk because they have to say something.

Also, we change back to GMT on the 23rd of September, so the date is correct twice.

You do know that some people around the world don't use BST, don't you?
IV probably use GMT because everyone should be able to easily see their time difference to GMT.
For instance, instead of saying BST you can say GMT+1 and it's easier to convert.

Nonetheless, it's illogical for a UK developer to release a game at 6.00 PM GMT when we are in GMT+1. It's a very common mistake to think we are in GMT right now, but we're not.

Was this on purpose, IV?

It made sense to me tbh, it doesn't matter that it's a UK developer when they're launching online internationally at a specific time. It would be a lot more confusing for other people around the world if it was BST.

6GMT sounds good to me. At that time both the UK and the US are up and about so chances of playing an online game within a hour of release is high. Albeit the Americans will be at work but thats why theres an office mode.
