Next Darwinia Windows Patch - Call for Beta Testers

Postby John » Wed Feb 22, 2006 4:55 pm

We would like your help in testing the next Windows patch, which will include bug fixes and also some new game-play features. If you are interested, please can you sign up at

http://forums.introversion.co.uk/darwin ... e=register

Please don't worry about finding your soundcard in the list (just select the first one).

Even if you've signed up before, please sign up again so that our system can register your interest.

We need about 100 people, Windows operating system only.

EDIT: Since this is a patch, you will need the full game in order to test it.

Huzzah!

With any luck, this patch will work on my lappy. But I doubt it; it really sucks, and all.

The first? I queried John with it about the second this newspost came up. He's quite good at not answering the questions :)

Darn not having access to a PC anymore. Guess I'll have to wait for the Mac beta.

That topic doesn't look to me like it refers to the new patch. It looks like simply a version of Darwinia with native support for Intel Macs.

Correct. It seems to be just a patch for Intel Mac support, and to bring it up to date with the currently released PC version. (icon based system, and such) At least, I didn't see any new features in it.

something Id really like to know is why you always have seperate linux/ windows tests.
why dont you simply rely on SDL for both so you have only to maintain one source?

Because not everyone has SDL installed, and it's faster and easier to support OpenGL?

OpenGL is cross platform compatible too... SDL is used mostly for 2D style and sound... The reason they have two test is due to having to compile it into different executables for each OS. Yes, the source code is universal, but do you really think they'll give that out and ask everyone to compile it locally? Sure... that wont be bad at all!

Plus, you have issues with each OS that need addressing.

Not really that surprisingly really...
