thats my reasoning, any way
*coughs*

A bunch of new members were in the Darwinia beta and everyone was new for the Uplink beta (as it was the first game).
IV seems to mainly look at the system specs people have. I believe they may also give beta slots to some of the more active/core members as a bit of a reward, but I can't say for sure.
Indeed, I must concede that Luigi30[0] and ScareyedHawk raise valid points. Perhaps I should have stated it thusly: Icepick doesn't hate you, he just wants you to die in as painful a way as possible, then resurrect you, and kill you again in a more painful way. He wishes to continue this process until the end of time, if not longer.

So basically the film Groundhog Day but Luigi30[0] as the main guy...

Yes, but instead of ending each day by going to sleep or committing suicide, he dies in very, very painful ways. Perhaps on one day, he is stretched on the rack until his arms and legs come off and he bleeds to death; the next day, he might be boiled alive; the following day, he might be raped to death, his flesh eaten, and his skin sewn into Icepick's clothing (and, if he is very, very lucky, it will happen in that order).
